This undersea robot just delivered 100,000 baby corals to the Great Barrier Reef

quote [ The project's leader hopes to eventually develop a fleet of the submersibles that would be used to save reefs around the world. ]

“Even if this technology is scaled up, if we don’t deal with climate change, it won’t be enough,” he said. “It’s like coming up with a robot to replant trees after the devastating wildfires that just happened. It’s not addressing how to stop the wildfires in the first place.”

New Horizons survived its flyby of Ultima Thule

quote [ New Horizons successfully "phoned home" at 10:28 a.m. EST, letting NASA scientists know all of its systems survived the flyby of Ultima Thule. The first real images will now slowly trickle in over the coming hours and days. ]

IIRC this is the furthest object a spacecraft has flown by. I believe it's not too much longer before distance interferes with transmissions- so this is one of the last objects we can get information from for now.

Stunning Photos Show Huge Crater on Mars Absolutely Brimming With Water Ice

quote [ While the presence of liquid water on Mars remains an ongoing topic of intense interest, we know that there is plenty of water ice adorning the Red Planet - and boy can it ever look amazing, as new images from the European Space Agency's Mars Express ]

The Mars orbiter has obtained a stunning view of a feature called the Korolev crater, an 81.4-kilometre (50.6-mile) diameter crater just south of the Olympia Undae dunes circling the northern polar cap. The crater is filled almost to the brim with pristine ice year-round.

quote [ An MIT professor argues that misinformation boils down to one simple thing: mental laziness, exacerbated by social media... Social media makes it particularly hard, because a lot of the features of social media are designed to encourage non-rational thinking. ]

If you can get by the first couple paragraphs it’s quite an okay read.

Delay, Deny and Deflect: How Facebook’s Leaders Fought Through Crisis

quote [ Russian meddling, data sharing, hate speech — the social network faced one scandal after another. This is how Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg responded. ]

A nice “two minutes of hate” for Facebook.

A related LinkedIn article made a nice summary “To be sure, Facebook isn’t going away tomorrow. But in the same way we grudgingly use Microsoft Word with a complete absence of joy, the days of Facebook’s growth and inevitability are behind it.”
