I imagine a 1/8 scale version of these things would work well for protecting against consumer-grade drone tech at a reasonable cost.

Possibly. Won't really fix the cost disparity problem though. Also, I don't remember the radar on those things being quite as versatile in their tracking as the drones would be capable of moving. I'm sure it'd work, but with drones being cheap enough you could probably overwhelm them. My guess will be mini drone swarms. Think antibodies attacking a pathogen.

Yes, still definitely a cost disparity, but I'm sure it doesn't cost $3 million to fire off a couple hundred rounds, even from such a fancy-pants gun. And if they can shoot down individual mosquitoes with lasers, I'm pretty sure they can track and shoot down drones.

On the other hand, a few dozen bullets are going to take down pretty much any small drone for the foreseeable future. |

As I understand it, well built, off the shelf hobby-shop quads can fly at more than 60 mph and hit altitudes of 10,000 feet. At that height you wouldn't see or hear it coming. It would effectively be an incoming mortar round if it just dropped from several thousand feet up with minimal power for guidance. Good luck hitting that with silly string.
