Rotherham

quote [ The Yorkshire town where 1,400 girls have been sexually abused by Asian men is a byword for depravity – all because people wouldn’t rock the multicultural boat ]

Let’s start with a riddle. If South Yorkshire Police can mount a raid on Sir Cliff Richard’s home in pursuit of evidence linked to a single allegation of child sex abuse 30 years ago, why were South Yorkshire Police incapable of pursuing multiple allegations against multiple men who raped 1,400 children over 16 years?

Hey! All of you people upset about neo-Nazis! Yeah, you! Hey! Look over here! Here's a case of Pakistanis being evil a few years ago! Forget about those neo-Nazis! That you're so focused on those neo-Nazis instead of these Pakistanis just proves that you're the one who is racist!

So you'd be more troubled about the mindset of the statue kickers than the statue raisers?
4321 said @ 2:21pm GMT on 15th Aug

I never said that. I didn't even imply it.
I think if the community feels a statue is inappropriate, they should go through the obvious channels to have it removed from the public square.
I don't think it's within the purview of self-appointed enforcers to destroy public monuments they don't like. I don't think that's acceptable if the statue is of Martin Luther King, Winston Churchill, or Mayor McCheese.

I've made a genuine effort to answer the questions you've posed above. Perhaps you could show me the same consideration in return.

I posted the Rotherham story because the rape of 1,400 children is a crime almost without modern precedent, and raises serious questions about why these children were left to their fates. Despite the significance of the story, nobody has posted it here. I believe it is every bit as worthy of consideration by thinking people as is VR porn, Karaoke Technology, or UBI.

Why then do you consider a post about this massive crime to be "Flamebait"?

Because you are engaging in what your camp has taken to calling "virtue signaling". The only reason you are posting an article from 2014 now is to deflect outrage at the current rise in white nationalism in the US toward something outrage-inducing involving non-whites, to both distract and try to justify racist sentiments. You are using those girls' suffering as a callous partisan maneuver, and it's disgusting.

By the way. If you're under the illusion this story is no longer relevant, then you can take it up with a lot of people who understand its continuing relevance. Including Sam Harris who felt the story significantly newsworthy to do the interview (linked above) just a few weeks ago. Or is Sam Harris also trying to "justify racist sentiments"?

You have a history, one that consists entirely of posting and commenting about bad things done by muslims and non-whites. You're monomaniacally obesessed with the subject. This post is just one more datapoint in that body of evidence.

I'm curious if you can marshal any evidence to support your claim that I "defended symbols of the Jim Crow south". If not, I expect an apology is forthcoming - I would not, and have not, ever said anything as bad about you on this site.

Or are you just going to ignore the fact that you've been reduced to making stuff up?

Let me know : )

OK This is a fool's errand but I am bored.
The Statue of Lee in that park was put there in 1909 Giving it credit of being at the beginning of Jim Crow. More historic than most of the statues that were put up in the 50' and 60's

What else was happening at that time that would make them put it up 75 years after the war had ended you ask?

Race Riots (U.S.), 1900–1910

You wrote that I:

I did nothing of the sort.

Until we clear that up, we can't really continue the discussion.

So, maybe I'm a dreamy-eyed benefit-of-the-doubter, but I don't actually think most of the "trolls" here are trolls. My understanding of a troll is that it's someone intentionally causing arguments, preferably between others, for the sake of pissing people off. I think most (but not all) of what we get is people either a) pushing an agenda, and/or b) some who's sense of self worth is strongly tied to their intelligence (I mean just look at the language used earlier in this post. It's trying so hard to sound as academic as possible), and like the idea of popping the SE left wing bubble.

To me these people aren't trolls. Some are. Maybe we should get a different label for those that aren't, but are trying to voice an opinion which disagrees with the majority view, but are doing it in a terrible way?

Then again I skip or skim a lot of the politics here at the monent, because I'm fucking, fucking, fucking sick of American politics.

Yeah, you're probably right. Maybe I'm being too lenient and forgetting all the times I've seen numbers trolling (it has definitely happened).
