Hot Women Holding Carp

quote [ The calendar is the brainchild of a certain Hendrik Pöhler, a native of Germany who sells equipment for carp fishing for a living. To get these priceless pics, photographer Raphael Faraggi runs the shoots in France over four weeks. He is assisted by “two competent caretakers,” who are charged with cleaning and polishing the carps’ scales before they are given to the models for the big pose. ]

Real carp, no Photoshop.

Why Religion Is More Durable Than Commonly Thought In Modern Society

quote [ It's commonly accepted that as societies become more modern, religion loses its grip. But recent research suggests it's more complicated than that. ]

Mummies, Thousand Statues Discovered in Ancient Egyptian Tomb

quote [ Several mummies, 10 wooden sarcophagi, and more than 1,000 funerary statues were discovered inside a 3,500-year-old tomb. Erected during Egypt's 18th Dynasty, the tomb is thought to have belonged to an ancient Egyptian magistrate named Userhat, who belonged to Egypt's noble class. ]

A few other news sources with slightly different reporting and several different pictures in extended.

On The Turing Completeness of PowerPoint

quote [ Video highlighting my research on PowerPoint Turing Machines for CMU's SIGBOVIK 2017. ]

This was published on April 1, but as far as I can tell, the actual content is legit. Link to research paper and example PP Turing machine in extended.

March for Science, April 22nd

quote [ The March for Science champions robustly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity. We unite as a diverse, nonpartisan group to call for science that upholds the common good and for political leaders and policy makers to enact evidence based policies in the public interest. ]

There are marches planned for every State in the US and many countries around the world. Science really is the best method we humans have come up with for ever more accurate understanding of the universe we live in. Please don't let politics force it out in favor of ideological fantasies when it comes to wise governance.

Maryland becomes first state to cover Planned Parenthood proposed cuts

quote [ Following the failure of the Republican “American Health Care Act,” an attempt to repeal fomer President Obama’s health care law, Democrats have regained confidence. On the state level, many Democratic lawmakers have taken precautionary action to protect access to birth control and preventive care in the event of future federal cuts to Planned Parenthood. ]

I'm happy to live in a State with a reasonable legislature, although this is exactly what the conservative Congress wants: States footing the bill for what really should be a national healthcare issue.

Meet the Hugo-Nominated Author of "Alien Stripper Boned From Behind By the T-Rex"

quote [ The Hugo Awards nominations were released this week, featuring some of the best and brightest works in science fiction and fantasy— most of which are relatively well known. Then, there’s one nominee for Best Novelette, a short story hardly anyone had even heard of... until now. ]

Posted mostly for the headline to be honest, but, "It’s about a stripper who has green skin, antennae, and three boobs that shoot laser beams from the nipples. She meets a sexy dinosaur while working at the strip club, they go back to her spaceship, and they fuck for several pages." So there's that, which is nice.

Awkward Solutions

quote [ There are architects who either don't have a clue what they're doing or they just want to watch the world burn. From a bike path on the ledge of a canal to a tap above an electricity socket - all of these crazy places need a warning sign next to them. Or to be moved to hell, a place where they belong. ]

"Environment" category as in The Built Environment. Original piece titled, "Accidents Waiting To Happen Thanks To These Architects And Designers." Actually, I doubt many of these situations were intended by architects or designers. More likely they are the result of unforeseen circumstances and the construction crew having to improvise on the spot. Still, I love this stuff.

Tadpoles learn to see with new eyes transplanted on their tails

quote [ “If a human had an eye implanted on their back connected to their spinal cord, would the human be able to see out of that eye? My guess is probably yes,” says Michael Levin, at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. ]

I wouldn't be surprised if we see full human tissue and organ regeneration within my lifetime.
