The coalition Democrats have to make to win.

quote [ By working together, the two groups can reach more people and amplify their messages, activists say.

"What we both realize is we're stronger when we operate together," Fells said. ]

This is the first I have seen this attempted...and the good news for me, is that effort came from the black wing.

The labor movement was The principal force that transformed
misery and despair into hope and progress. Out of its bold struggles,
economic and social reform gave birth to unemployment insurance, old-
age pensions, government relief for the destitute, and, above all, new wage
levels that meant not mere survival but a tolerable life. The captains of
industry did not lead this transformation; they resisted it until they were
overcome. When in the thirties the wave of union organization crested over
the nation, it carried to secure shores not only itself but the whole society.
Civilization began to grow in the economic life of man, and a decent life
with a sense of security and dignity became a reality rather than a distant
dream.
It is a mark of our intellectual backwardness that these monumental
achievements of labor are still only dimly seen, and in all too many circles
the term “union” is still synonymous with self-seeking, power hunger,
racketeering, and cynical coercion. There have been and still are wrongs
in the trade union movement, but its share of credit for triumphant
accomplishments is substantially denied in the historical treatment of
the nation’s progress.

This also significant that it took place in Ferguson. Where voter turnout is abysmal in the black community...even after a year of activism this was the result...

"Demonstrations gave way to increased civic activism with 29% of eligible voters casting more than 3,700 ballots. That's more than double the 12% of eligible voters that came out for last April's mayoral election."

29% WTF and they are bragging...29...seriously?

Ferguson voters make history and increase turnout

Yes. They are. And that's great.

You're talking about building coalitions at the start and at the end you're poo-pooing a get-out-the-vote effort? 🙄

I haven't called you anything. I wish you would stop using this stupid right-wing bumper sticker slogan about "identity politics". I've never heard anybody say " vote for me because you're black" and I don't think you have either. Black people vote "D" based on policy, coalitions, and tradition, pretty much just as you do. If they don't vote for your candidate, it's not because they didn't understand the message.

But you have to acknowledge that identity politics meant something for the conservative right. For those that think White America is being shoved aside, identity politics is everything. A good portion of dumpster voters voted for him based on this idea. You and I know that it's bullshit, and it's mostly about policy, but it was everything for the uneducated ''white voter. We need to recognize this to be able to combat it.

Maybe I just missed the point of all this. . .

Oh I understand...racist turned the term into a dog whistle for the bigots. Just can't find another term that fits...but you are right maybe I should try.

Yes, Trump campaigned explicitly to white racists, but even they expect policy results (a wall, stop-and-frisk policing). It's more than just about being in the White Club.

I haven't called you anything..Neither did I....
(That was a quote from the link posted below)

"I wish you would stop using this stupid right-wing bumper sticker slogan about "identity politics""...then show me another term that fits.

"I've never heard anybody say " vote for me because you're black""

Well not in those words but I also know you are too smart not to have heard it...hell Trump said it out loud..."what have you got to lose"

Black people vote "D" based on policy, coalitions, and tradition,

EXACTLY!!! So lets start campaigning on that.

Oh don't get me wrong I think there should be the Black caucus , the Black Wing is an integral part of the party...as matter of fact I think they are an ascendant part...and the chance on there being another black president soon are very good.

But vote for me I am a woman or vote for me I am Mexican American has to go!

Policy, coalitions, and tradition...couldn't have said it better.

Think of it as "vote for me, I am part of your coalition", that's all "identity politics" amounts to.

If somebody tells you to stop doing identity politics, they're trying to belittle the needs of that part of your coalition.
bbqkink said @ 2:05am GMT on 28th Mar
Oh I don't mind some strange coalitions as a mater of fact the bigger the better. But there is only one thing to hold a coalition that broad...economics. We need a candidate who opens up a Rallys by screaming as they walk on the stage $15 or fight...who start chants Family leave Family Leave...who say healthcare is a right...Whos sings "You can't get me I'm in the union"

Well a Bernie Sanders 30 years younger....a bit more hair....and maybe black...maybe a black woman....But one who will campaine to all of those who make less that $250,000 a year....should be easy that is 80% of the population.

Now where do we find them?
