Texas Lawmakers Advance Bill That Would Allow Doctors to Lie to Pregnant Women

quote [ This morning, the Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs unanimously passed a bill on to the full Senate that would let the government decide what a pregnant woman deserves to know about the health of her unborn child. ]

What the actual fuck? This should be grounds for loss of medical license...

This would be grounds for devoting my full attention to this doctor for a while.

Sec. 71A.001. WRONGFUL BIRTH. A cause of action may not arise, and damages may not be awarded, on behalf of any person, based on the claim that but for the act or omission of another, a person would not have been permitted to have been born alive but would have been aborted.
Waste of time and money. It would never get past the courts. Based on this language it doesn't even allow for the protection of life of the mother.

The life of the mother has never been a concern of hardcore pro lifers.

I told you guys this was happening. They had these laws ready to go last year so they could work on passing them at the start of their sessions this year. Did you think I was joking?

If a doctor is anti-abortion and believes I might abort my fetus, the doctor can choose not to tell me about any defects and I will not be able to sue them for the longterm medical care my disabled baby will need assuming it is born alive and survives. Do you have any idea what a lifelong disability costs? Especially now that they're gutting healthcare?

On top of that, if the fetus is threatening to my life and the doctor thinks I might abort, they don't have to tell me. They might not even be liable for my death. We won't know until it happens to someone and goes to court. Does anyone remember the woman with the stillborn fetus in Ireland? She died because the hospital was so afraid of the anti-abortion laws that they wouldn't even remove a dead fetus. It rotted inside her and poisoned her blood. Ireland changed its laws because of that case.

If this isn't stopped, it's going to be very bad.
