Well looks like this is either a story about another Whitehouse leak or shock that this would even cross their minds.

quote [ Trump Administration May Mobilize National Guard To Round Up Unauthorized Immigrants

White House press secretary Sean Spicer called the report “100% false.” ]

The headline is clickbate, but it does look like this was talked about as an actual strategy. Doesn't shock me as I think this is part of their strategy all along.

See, this is not real news and just adds credence to the so-called president's 'fake news' narrative. Sure, it's perfectly believable that this may have been discussed, but no doubt a lot of crazy shit is discussed as possible strategy or policy, especially by the current administration. Let's just try to focus on the crazy shit they're actually doing.

This shows the scope of things possible. I think it is also important to show Trump as man who will go to extremes. I just don't like clickbate title.

Trump Administration May Mobilize National Guard To Round Up Unauthorized Immigrants

Considered not May.

All things are possible, though. Part of the process of making and implementing policy is to look at all the options and think each one through. Everything has to be considered, even (maybe even especially) the extremes.

"Deportation force"...did you miss something? This only has to be considered if you are planing on rounding people up.
papango said @ 11:38pm GMT on 17th Feb
And rounding people up is being considered. As it pretty much always is whenever immigration comes up, pretty much everywhere. How quickly its dismissed varies, but it's just not responsible to consider all the options and look at the costs and implications.

Look, I get why people get excited by this, the media for sure likes to blow anything being 'considered' into a big deal. As if merely discussing makes it government policy. And I get that, 24 hours is a long time to fill with news and talking heads speculating wildly is a pretty cheap way to get viewers fired up and tuning in. But it's not helping. If the administration is looking at implementing its clearly stated immigration aims, then it needs to be looking at everything. Would you honestly feel better if no work was done until Cheeto Benito decided it was a good idea and sent in the National Guard? That's the worst thing that could happen. It needs to be considered before it can be argued against.

Amazing you said that in the context of an American president like it is normal or even needed...you act like this is a solution to a pressing problem. It was disgusting when done to the Japaneses during WWII but we were at war with Japan at the time.

Net immigration is at a net negative...an exodus not immigration. The undocumented living here are a net plus to the economy and community...we don't need any damn wall or a round up of people off our streets and out of their homes separating families.

These are the actions of a dictator consolidating power, nothing more.

I'm not saying this makes it okay, but before you get all riled up you should remember that Obama sent the National Guard to assist with border security back in 2010. An important distinction here is that they were under orders not to arrest anyone crossing the border, but shit like this is important to not ignore. If you had posted the Vox article that your HuffPo article cites, that information would have been provided.

EDIT: Also, I think sanepride is right. This intentional omission of facts and spreading of rumor rather than fact just gives Trump more ammo. Media outlets have NOT learned their lesson -- they're so eager to be the first to jump on a story to get clicks they forget to be journalists.

Except that time he was talking about nuclear weapons. So it's easy to imagine the idea was at least seriously considered. And in the case of the National Guard, more likely to actually happen.

Here's a lengthy, fascinating laundry list of intrigues and power plays going on in the Trump White House.
Interesting character study of a man who is apparently a huge control freak.

I would not be surprises in the least if Bannon cynically leaks stories that are 100% false in order to strengthen the claim that the reputable press is the fake press.
bbqkink said @ 8:53pm GMT on 17th Feb
That is just it if you read the story it is not 100% false...the title is misleading but that wasn't part of the leak that was a "journalist" trying to get clicks .

Here's my conspiracy theory: Trump will pardon the Bundy Ranch/bird sanctuary occupiers, then start deputizing militia groups to "help" with deportation and border patrol. Divert military surplus gear, give them a macho name like Bulldog Brigade or Trump's Tigers. An instant, off-the-books private army.

I like the confluence of 'Trump' and 'troopers'—

Trumpoopers
"Proudly expelling the brown from America!"

Sadly, I suspect that the little cashew-sized bit that is his rational mind thought of that slogan well before me.
