LOL. So there's also a tweet in the extended of an NYTimes reporter saying they spoke to a FB employee that said they can't get into their building because their card reader system isn't working. Which isn't out of the question for access control systems that authenticate over IP.

It gets better. Not only was the ID card access over the same network that you needed to get inside the building to fix, but the person with a physical key was unable to be contacted quickly because they were supposed to be notified via WhatsApp.

There are plenty of sayings along the lines of "it's not a backup key if it's on the same ring," and this is why it keeps getting repeated.

It's funny because first world problems, but on the other hand whatsapp is used pretty extensively across the globe for things like payments and whatnot which is insane and super dystopian. The ramifications of all this on top of everything else that's going on is just mindblowing. Especially if it's DNS because it could take days for the fixes to fully propagate.

Can't say it surprises me - our IT department has some certifiable knuckleheads that have managed to crash edge routers in multiple cities while updating firmware on a couple of firewalls. The arguments on if it was the vendors, or the administrators fault can go on for months on shit like this.
