Rural America’s Drinking-Water Crisis

quote [ “I’ll be honest with you,” said Gary Michael Hunt. “You never know when you go in there and turn on the faucet if you have water, or if you ain’t going to have no water.” Hunt, a former coal miner who lives in Martin County, Kentucky, said he has had reliability and safety issues with his drinking water for about 25 years—including water permeated by excessive amounts of disinfectant chemicals. ]

Had a hard time deciding what category this fit in - a sign of just how important access to clean water is to all of us.

The images above are of tap water samples from Martin County, Kentucky - to me they look more like something you'd see on a degenerate thread on 4chan.

Meanwhile, Flint, Michigan has been without clean drinking water since April 2014.

The FBI is goddamn right. The American dream has never been anything but a scam.

Obviously, the solution is to remove stifling "big government" regulations and let the free market fix it!

The invisible hand of the free market is an excellent water filter!

If people aren't happy with the quality of their tap water, they can choose to use a different tap.

Trump won Kentucky with 66% of the vote. This is what they want.

Is it? As was often the case during the 2016 Democratic primaries, Bernie would have easily taken the state if it hadn't been for the overwhelming will of the denser metropolitan areas. And the "socialist terrorist community organizer" 2008 Barack Obama saw a much better turnout in the general election than 2012 Obama or 2016 Hillary Clinton.

I'm sorry, raph, maybe I'm a little dense. I'm not sure what you're getting at. Kentucky has gone Republican by around 60% of the vote for quite a few elections. They desperately need health care reform, but consistently vote against it. And so on and so forth. The white majority votes on religious/culture war issues. I don't see any place for Bernie in that mess.

I'm not saying Bernie would have won Kentucky, but "leftist" Democrats still historically perform better than the more "centrist" candidates. And using Trump as a metric to define "what they want" when more than 40% of the state didn't show up for the tire fire they were presented in 2016 isn't helping things. This country is bad enough without the self-proclaimed "good guys" blaming the victims for their own conditions when we have plenty of evidence of the Democrats selling those demographics out in other states. So I'll say it a bit more clearer, as with other states, the only two Kentucky counties Hillary Clinton won in the 2016 general election were the densely populated metropolises that made up for the rest of the state's interest in Bernie during the primary. Whether or not there's enough of them to make a difference, people in rural areas turn out more for the leftist candidates that speak to their issues and painting those states with the wide brush you're using is only going to fuck the Democrats in the future. Again.

They want what they want, Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul, and Donald Trump. It's the Bible Belt, they vote social justice issues, just on the other side. Grant them the responsibility for their vote.
