I Oppose the Parade of the Grand Armies of the Republic

quote [ As an active duty officer in a sea command, I ask you, as my appointed leadership, to respectfully decline this request.

Our fleet faces a readiness crisis. Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer has said that every readiness question must start with the mention of our 17 dead shipmates on the USS John S. McCain (DDG-56) and Fitzgerald (DDG-62), and this proposed movement of people, parts, and equipment must be considered through the same lens. ]

I don't normally link blog articles, but a good read written from the inside...

When I was a kid I vividly remember me and my dad watching the CBS News with Walter Cronkite and they showed footage of a big Soviet military parade. My dad made a point to tell me that only fascist dictatorships put on grand military parades like that with the tanks and missiles. โ€œThey hate democracy and will do everything they can to destroy it.โ€ 35 years later my dad voted for a fascist dictator. It breaks my heart.

Better a parade than a war. Let them have it if they leave us alive.

As every Republican president starts wars, Republican voters must either be voting for war or government dissolution. If providing nationalistic parades provides them grandiose feelings of being #1 while satisfying their demand for tribalistic hard authoritarian leadership, for only hundreds of millions of dollars, then let that be the cost of dragging them along with civilization. So very much cheaper than war, and in every way. I would be weepingly grateful to get through this turn without another, especially led by this narcissist and End-Timer combo.

Assuming their starting a war would be our end, we'd be left with only Mueller. Perhaps a parade may be only a postponement, and perhaps that's all we'd need.

Perhaps Russia, China, and North Korea having these parades instead of war relatively may be correlation and not causation. Most of the rest of the world has soccer. I would trade either nonsense for the USA's religious fervor and bombs.

This is another thing I've never been able to understand about dictators.

If somebody told me that I had to stand around for ages - possibly in a snow storm, watching military equipment and soldiers march past, it would be like some dreadful punishment. But these jokers could have anything they want.

Literally. If Kim Jong Un said that instead of being military dictator, what he would like to do is design road bridges on an etch-a-sketch, and in return for democratising NK everybody has to build his bridges around the world, we'd agree to it. There is nothing he could do that is more expensive, disruptive and vile than what he's doing now.

So this kind of thing is clearly what they want. It's beyond my understanding.

Kim Jong Un has the parades because his county has no other resource to brag about but their war machine and his puppet performers.

Actually, military parades are very entertaining. We have one on Independence Day and not that Mexico is like a military world power or anything like that, but it's pretty cool to watch the soldiers marching and the tanks and trucks while the planes zoom over us and the helicoters and marines perform rescue maneuvers. It's not to honour the president, who's an idiot and everybody knows that and yells at him to go fuck his mom.
When we were kids we would go to the penthouse and watch the planes with binoculars and telescopes, and more recently my kids do the same thing.
And then it's over, and you are back to the mysery of everyday life.

I would pick guard duty over marching in a parade. I have volunteered for CQ or any other duty to get out of that.

It's the military - you'll need to play ACEY-DEUCY

I will obey the orders of the Commander-in-Chief and the orders of my seniors in accordance with the oath I swore, but I'm going to ask my leadership to not do the same.

I also swore I would not follow unlawful orders. Besides who would march in the parade? Who's available?

Homeless veterans.
