Your hypothesis implies that there are currently no shootings in non-gun-free-zones because people can shoot back. This is obviously not the case.
Removing gun free zones will not stop the initial attack. You can't shoot at the shooter until they start shooting. By then, people are already dead.
I've shown examples below where the shooter simply shot the people that shot back at them.
I understand you're passionate about the issue, but your suggestion doesn't solve what people want solved.
