I understand the FBI did in fact follow up. Talked to the youtuber that tipped them off.

But what the fuck were they supposed to do? What are the protocols? Place him under surveillance? Arrest him? Conduct more interviews?

But I can see the Reich wingnuts running with this to impugn the FBI.

Limbaugh and Coulter are already pushing that nonsense, not to mention our own resident trolls. The FBI apparently consists of only a dozen or so agents who can only handle one case at a time.

I think this is not the same as the youtube thing.

You can't do anything unless they are showing themselves to be a clear and present danger.

Normally approaching the subject, interviewing them, and leaving it at that causes them to self-reflect: "I am being watched".

They're (generally) more careful about what they say, and (generally) more careful about what they do. Or they save us all the trouble and snap right then and there.

The youtube comment I think was too vague to take seriously. Repeated postings or separate similar posts would have been needed.

That may be true, but even if they did talk to him (you are being watched)it doesn't mean a mentally ill person intent on harming as many people as possible is really going to care. Unless they surveil him and intercede when he becomes a clear and present danger, I can't see the FBI acting like a baby sitter for every tip they get about someone ranting on the internet while holding weapons. Who's going to pay for that?

IOW, I'm not blaming the FBI like conservatives that look for any reason whatsoever other than the real problem. Now is not the time, libs want to take away your guns, mental health is the problem, culture is the problem. Everything is the problem except how one procures instruments of death. The NRA, the gun industry, and conservatives are hiding behind an amendment written over 200 years ago.

This is upsetting, but let's remember who the real culprits are: the ones who offer thoughts and prayers like this was some natural disaster we couldn't do anything about.

Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is not acceptable. They are spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign - there is no collusion. Get back to the basics and make us all proud!
