It might have been the case that publishing the list as-received was deemed unproductive, but the slight-of-hand is in itself damning.

The American voters decided they wanted to put the country back in the hands of the people who created the Great Recession which we are just finally stumbling out of. Because the country should be run like a white business. So they elected a lying, corrupt, self-aggrandizing, ignorant, soulless racist deadbeat who has never done anything to benefit anyone but himself, and who is obviously being blackmailed by Vlad Putin. And they elected a congress controlled by fear-driven weasels who will stop at nothing to avoid doing their jobs.
But that was last year. What we're seeing now is not even surprising, it's just the natural course of events.
