The whole point of kneeling, instead of just sitting out, was to honor the soldiers and veterans of this country while still protesting the consequence-free murder of minorities by police. The national anthem is not to honor soldiers and veterans. This is entirely wrong. The conservative right has done a fabulous job of redefining the meaning in response to #BLM, suggesting any disrespect for the flag or anthem is disrespecting soldiers and is a binary choice. The national anthem is honoring your country, and all that it stands for. Not just guys going to other countries and stealing their resources, killing innocents, or bailing out other oppressed nations or peoples. The point of the protest was to honor the country, but realizing it has problems, specifically in the african american community. Since the conservative right want's to deny racism exists, or redefine it as patriotic nationalism, anything that minimizes or demonizes minority movements is acceptable.
