London Bridge incident: Van veers onto footpath, 'people stabbed'

quote [ British police are dealing with an incident on London Bridge after witnesses said a van ploughed into pedestrians before several people got out of the vehicle and started stabbing passers-by.

In the latest statement form London's Metropolitan Police said officers were also responding to an incident in Borough Market, which is nearby to the southern end of London Bridge. ]

If you are at all a foodie, Borough Market is fantastic. If you find yourself in London, don't miss it. It's been a prime shopping location for literally a thousand years.

"Enough is enough," UK Prime Minister Theresa May has said, announcing a new push to deny extremists their "safe spaces" both online and in the real world.

There is "far too much tolerance of extremism in our country"

I'm curious to see if the recent events affect Londons stances on taking refugees.

So assuming this single eyewitness account published in a sensationalist tabloid is actually factual-
You say we should let the murdering terrorists define what it's 'about'?
Good plan, give them exactly what they want. That oughta stop 'em.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, sanepride, but your preferred methods of dealing with this, willful blindness and denial, have both been tried, quite literally, to death.

They don’t work.

Inventing euphemisms like “dystopian violence” isn’t going to fix it. The headlines are going to correct you every time. Just like they are now. There is no reference to “dystopian violence” in any of the hundreds of articles because that’s not what’s going on. It’s just is meaningless bullshit term, invented so you can all play pretend. But you can’t play pretend indefinitely.

Islamic murderers have killed 28 people in just 12 days in Britain alone. We owe it to the dead to speak plainly about what’s killing them. Your refusal to do so is not just the usual harmless PC bullshit. It’s a great deal more serious than that.

You have to stop lying to yourself. And stop lying to others. It’s a bad habit and its part of the problem. The time for euphemism is over. The bodies are piling up and it’s starting to stink.

Newsflash: Murdering terrorists don't give a fuck what your or I call them.
But if you have something to say about Muslims in general, go ahead and say it, cause it sure sounds like you're falling back on some euphemistic bullshit.

I think it's important to acknowledge the causal role that religion plays in these acts, but I posted in haste well before the motivations of these individuals were known. I was also reluctant to court controversy unnessecarily. I had to pick a category, and dystopian violence fit like a glove.

I appreciate that the motivation of the perpetrators was not yet crystalline when you posted. It’s a fair point. I didn’t make the down mod until that link was clearly established, at which point, for the reasons I enumerate above, the category should have accurately reflected the nature of the attack. I also appreciate that you acknowledge and recognize the causal role that religion plays. Nonetheless, the inclination on this board is to obfuscate, dissemble and pretend. For proof look no further than the fact that Islam is never referenced in the comments, not even yours. In the case of the Manchester killings, the comments all talked about Donald Trump (?!).

This is denial. Plain and simple. Just like snagUber calling me a troll for pointing out the journalistic reality of the event (hey snag, if you want to actually discuss your accusation that I am trolling, I’m here). Lastly, and only because the proof points for this argument are so thick on the ground that it would be impossible to innumerate them all, look at sanepride’s comments above. Even now he questions whether the link to Islam is “actually factual”, which is illustrative and fascinating. He knows it’s factual, the whole planet knows it, but he bristles at the reporting of it (as does snagUber). He busies himself with disparaging the publication, as though the claim itself were in doubt. This is a classic case of shooting the messenger. It’s cognitive dissonance, willful blindness, and denial, and there is every reason to believe that it is a contributing factor to the increasingly deadly situation we find ourselves in. You posting about these crimes using the euphemism “dystopian violence” is a part of that continuum.

Of course, if we really are going to post stories using descriptors of this variety, we need one called “Jihad”. Somehow though, I don’t think that’s forthcoming.
