Bernie Sanders’ Campaign Faced A Fake News Tsunami. Where Did It Come From?

quote [ The trolls set out to distract and divide the invigorated left.

Bev Cowling, 64, saw a sudden deluge of requests to join the Sanders Facebook groups she administered from her home in Toney, Alabama. All of a sudden, they were getting 80 to 100 requests to join each day. She and the other administrators couldn’t vet everyone, and the posts started getting bizarre. “It came in like a wave, like a tsunami,” she said. “It was like a flood of misinformation.”

“Russia’s information war might be thought of as the biggest trolling operation in history,” and its target is nothing less than the utility of the Internet as a democratic space.” ]

A very interesting read, about how social media has been rendered practically useless as a medium for discussion or organizing.

FBI is on this shit, not just Russians, maybe Americans helped.

FBI’s Russian-influence probe includes a look at Breitbart, InfoWars news sites

Rachel Maddow talks about this stuff, and more; explains how Russia has weaponized the internet. Twenty minute video with much evidence, well worth watching.

It's a nasty double-whammy: gullible Sanders supporters might believe some of the bullshit, while at the same time it makes oversensitive Clinton supporters think Sanders supporters are batshit. And the non-gullible Sanders supporters and the thoughtful Clinton supporters are caught in the middle and even if they suspect what's going on it's hard to push back.

Exactly right, a lot of folks will just throw up their hands and say "fuck all of this", which is the actual goal.

Remember that electing Trump was never Putin's end goal, or at least not before the last stretch. It was torpedoing the Democrats responsible for the sanctions. Supporting Bernie Sanders was a devious and successful means to that end.

But on a broader level - holy shit, people have got to stop believing everything they read on facebook!

Sorry. Have to disagree. The first part, anyway. The entire premise was to divide and disrupt/destabilize the DNC. Putin definitely wanted dumpster because he's a hack, and is now wrapped tightly around his dick. Putin is trying to spark the explosion of conservatism over the globe, and the GOP feels the same way. This is why they are protecting Russia.

And it wasn't just facebook. There were scores of legitimate internet news sites that were attacked. NPR was one of them. They stopped posting comments last summer. Probably because they knew the PutinBots were out in full force. I used to spar with them on NPR on occasion, and the tactic was obvious. Pimp Sanders and create divisions. Induce Sanders supporters either abstain or vote for agent orange in defiance to mainstream. They flooded threads that ended up with 3-5 thousand comments. Absolutely impossible to sift through all of it, especially when the first 1,000 were all about how Hillary was a crook, and Bernie was being shut out of the democratic party.

Because it was the Russians who shut down the Nevada caucus and made the MSM ignore it. It's also the Russians who gave Bernie $600,000 to lay down and die.

Fuck Sanders, he sold us out, and is now desperately trying to keep himself relevant.

You Neo-Lib idiots can push this Russian agenda all you want, but at the end of the day, your party shot itself in the foot, and has nobody to blame over it other than themselves.

you didn't..........read all of this on Facebook did you?

Yes, of course, it's all fake news. None of it happened. It's just Russian bloggers in complete and total control of the entire internet and all of domestic media.

My God, how could I have not seen the light before this HuffPo circlejerk article?
