Dutch election: PM Rutte sees off anti-EU Wilders challenge

quote [ Mark Rutte's party is set for 31 seats, with Geert Wilders' anti-immigrant party predicted to win 19.

Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament until earlier this year, said he was "relieved" Mr Wilders' party had lost.

"We must continue to fight for an open and free Europe!" he added on Twitter (in German).

However, Mr Wilders warned that Mr Rutte "has not seen the last of me".

He previously said that the "patriotic revolution" would continue to take place, and "the genie will not go back into the bottle". ]

The Nationalist Right lost this round, but they're not going away.

The sale of Mein Kampf is forbidden in the Netherlands.

Geert Wilders wanted to add the Quran to the list.

Perhaps we should all just be allowed to read what we want.

I think it was released again a few years ago but with a bunch of side notes added to it, plus it's forbidden to sell, not to have. But I have to agree that everyone should be able to read and understand the ridiculousness of it. Also Russia, France, Austria and china forbid Mein Kampf.

The German banning of Mein Kampf and other symbols and promotion of Nazism has the obvious suppressive effects within citizenry, the refutation of a seductive and destructive idea much like the banning of heroin and pyramid schemes and guns or religion in public classrooms, but it also serves as a lasting announcement to the world of a hard lesson learned.

Thank fuck for that. The EU has its problems, but it's collapse would be an unmitigated disaster.

yeah I'm as happy as a dog with 7 dicks, I'll tell you that. It'll be quite interesting to see what kind of formation there will be made, but for now we won't need to torch down any mosques yet.

It's nice to see Russia lose one.

I think they're putting more effort into France and Germany. I hope the German voters are more wide awake than US voters.
