According to the article, Congress already doesn't have any healthcare subsidies.

A lovely dream, like term limits for Congress.

A wrong headed idea on both accounts.

"Term Limits"

A right wing idea to help them turn over power You will notice the Republicans will stop making this argument...they are now in power.

It also used to be a sign of pride to have your representative or senator to be there for a long time. It takes time to work your way into positions of power and power is how you get defense factories, roads and bridges and all sorts of goodies for your state.

"Removing health coverage for congress."

Like it or not we have to pay these jerks and as wrong as it is we still have an employer based healthcare system.

Currently, members of Congress and their staff are required by the Affordable Care Act to "obtain coverage by health plans created under the Affordable Care Act or coverage offered via an Affordable Insurance Exchange."

So removing that would give them the freedom to go to the doctor they want and not have themselves telling them how to get health care.

What happened to that "Cadillac" plan they had? Did somebody force them to accept ACA coverage as a punishment for passing the law? They had the best of the best.

But GM still has the same insurance they had. Nobody was forced to go on the exchanges employer policies is still by far the biggest type of insurance...never heard of the change for congress.

+++++++++++++++

And ya I know Republicans don't like the ACA and I am familiar with the Reconciliation process...I was taking about congress's healthcare policy.

Ahh that is what I was wondering about...

I'd be way more into this if most of congress wasn't rich as fuck and cozy with medical lobbyists.

This is the big fish. Defense spending is 4-5% of GDP. Healthcare is closer to 18% and impacts all other categories. All of the lobbyists are protecting their turf on this one.

My friend that works in healthcare is ridiculously overpaid and is working below "market value"
