It was once postulated that Fox News' purpose wasn't just to provide an echo-chamber for right-wing hooey, but to undermine everyone's belief in the very concept of news. If they could create doubt in their rivals' audiences, that was just fine with them.

We're getting to the point where the very concept of "I existed prior to this moment" will be called into question by the person making the statement.

I'm also wondering how courts will change thanks to this post-fact mentality. If there's no reasonable expectation that, say, a President of the United States would ever actually mean anything he says, can he ever be impeached for lying to Congress?

The thing that always upset me is that other media outlets treated Fox News as a media outlet which granted it respect it didn't deserve and I think that served to undercut network news creditability greatly.

Ratings draw advertising revenue.
Everyone likes revenue.

Twitter's being a twat. They bounce people for hate and incitement and yet they continue to indulge Trump.

I'm a lot more unnerved by the actual, unfettered ability to launch nuclear weapons that he will have as president.
If he goes on tweeting like a petulant man-baby, maybe that's a good thing. If that's what satisfies his thin-skinned persona, it's a lot better lobbing tweets than ICBMs.

We're all fucking dead. Putin has plans for land grabs and military expansion through proxy "civil wars". China continues its aggressive expansion and "oops, we didn't mean to steal this, we'll give it right back after we open it up and take a look inside". Trump doesn't even know what our nuclear program is, but thinks it should be bigger and ooh, shiny red button. And now Pakistan can't tell the difference between fake threats and real ones.

Nothing to worry about folks. The Earth will be just fine in a few centuries after we are gone.

In fairness, those places are teeming with plants and insects and the like. They're going to be fine without us. Two or three hundred years from now they'll be mutations and weirdness, but life will be getting along.

Once bacteria evolves that can eat plastic (which I think happening already, but you know how slow and erratic evolution is) the planet will be well on its way to recovering from the opposable thumb-big brain combo that is currently destroying it.

That's common. Just that their waste isn't very human friendly.
