I dunno about the whole "menstrual leave" thing. I mean, we still have shit like this going on in the world. Is removing a woman on her period from the workplace actually beneficial, on the society level?

Now if workplaces do what is used as an example in this article, I think that's a good thing. Just give employees sick leave without questions, but please don't label it "menstrual leave".

It's a nice idea but really this should just be covered by paid sick leave, which most workers in the US don't have anyway. Maybe President Trump will realize that part of 'making America great' should include basic rights to benefits like health care and paid leave that the rest of the world takes for granted, but somehow I doubt it.

I think he means that everybody will have to respect him, and not criticise him while he struts around, feathering his nest and generally having a cool four years. Essentially, Make America Great for Donald Trump.

As if America wasn't great for Donald Trump already.

Agreed. My response to this proposal would be something along the lines of "We should pay salaried women less then, no?" since they're going to have more time off granted then men working the same job. Of course, if we want to give men some random extra days off for them to use as they choose each month....oh wait, we're back to the basic concept of sick leave again.

Yes. I think the idea that the HR department is the best place to determine what non-contagious illnesses 'deserve' leave and which don't is lunacy. Just give people sick leave and let them decide for themselves when they need it. If it's being abused (and everything gets abused) then HR can step in and support a manager in dealing with a staff issue.

They used to do this in japan in accordance with Shinto to make sure women weren't all unpurifying the place everywhere.

I still think to this day that we should subsidize with tax dollars, an island where all women can be sent during their time of the month. They are allowed back into the world after they stop bleeding.
eidolon said @ 6:55pm GMT on 3rd Dec
Do we HAVE to come back from the island?
rylex said @ 8:50pm GMT on 3rd Dec
Im sure you would want to return.

Does anyone really want to be stuck on an island full of menstruating women?
eidolon said @ 3:22am GMT on 4th Dec
But there are definitely no men, right? Sign me up for Period Paradise!
papango said @ 3:45am GMT on 4th Dec
I would be stoked to get to spend a week a month on a women-only retreat. Just chilling and taking a break and re-energising.
RokDragon said @ 3:52am GMT on 4th Dec
You seem to like women much more than all the other women I know.
papango said @ 4:02am GMT on 4th Dec [Score:1 Underrated]
I do like women. But the 'I'm not like other girls' strain of self-enforced misogyny is strong in the media and many women fall for it.
RokDragon said @ 5:59am GMT on 4th Dec
Yes, it's clearly the media's fault. Just like everything else wrong with the world.
papango said @ 6:07am GMT on 4th Dec
I think it's more than a media thing, I think it's a real thing that women do to each other. It's just that for entertainment and drama the 'not like other girls' trope is really strong. Even people who mean well often create great female characters by focusing on how they're 'different' to other girls - or they mistake being different to the one-dimensional portrayal of women as a critique of women (who are presumed to be like that), rather than a critique of the poor character creation or storytelling.
RokDragon said @ 5:25pm GMT on 4th Dec
You're lucky (or in denial) if you don't know any women who match the 'character', and you're insane if you want to spend a week surrounded by them. It might be okay if you could handpick the island's inhabitants, but leaving it to chance doesn't sound like a good time. Of course, my preferred amount of human interaction (regardless of gender) is only slightly more liberal than that of Miss Havisham.
arrowhen said @ 5:38pm GMT on 4th Dec
I sure as hell wouldn't want to spend any time on an island full of random other dudes.
eidolon said @ 1:16am GMT on 5th Dec
Don't you already? Random women too. At least the gender restricted zone has half as many

Still sounds like a good deal to me. When do the ships leave? Is there a position available for a good mousing cat?
arrowhen said @ 2:16am GMT on 5th Dec
The larger the population, the more opportunities there are to meet one of the tiny percentage of people who aren't boring assholes.
eidolon said @ 2:20am GMT on 5th Dec
Assuming that the asshole quota per capita is equal between the genders and there are 7 billion people in the world, you'll encounter as many non-assholes as you would have in a mixed sex society without ever encountering all of the non-assholes.

Even if just 1 in a million of the 3.5 billion of a sex isn't an asshole, that's still 3500 non-assholes. How many friends do you really need?
RokDragon said @ 2:13am GMT on 5th Dec
I imagine that would turn out much the same as Lord of the Flies.
papango said @ 4:25am GMT on 5th Dec
I'm not saying you shouldn't attempt to set someone straight when you see they've made a terrible and egregious mistake, and I'm sure you mean will with this. But I have to back my life time of seeking out and enjoying the company of diverse women wherever I can find them over the perceptions of a man who is confident describing the majority of the women he knows in a single sentence that isn't 'none of them can find a bra that fits properly and looks good'.
arrowhen said @ 5:59pm GMT on 4th Dec
So, unlike other girls, you're NOT not like other girls? :P
rylex said @ 6:14am GMT on 4th Dec
Definitely no men.

Pinky promise.
