Goodbye to Internet and Hello GMO's

quote [ The text of the Agreement was released by TPP Parties on 5 November 2015 and can be accessed by chapter below. The text will continue to undergo legal review and will be translated into French and Spanish language versions prior to signature. ]

To quote Alex Jones "This document has been voted on in our government without the full text even being released to the public – until now – and take note – it wasn’t released by the US government, either. It would affect your Internet privacy, your ability to choose whether or not to eat GM food, and could even force multiple countries’ citizens to lose their rights for free speech or a fair trial for commodities traded between corporations."

Saw a picture of this damned thing on a Congressmans desk. Weighed over 100 lbs and stood just under 3 ft tall. And, after attempting to read a portion of it, you think there isn't your worst nightmare hidden within its pages? Think again Bucky.

Bend over and pass the lube boys.......we is about to be buggered!

What exactly do you think genetically modified food is? Further, what is it you think it does?

Citing Alex Jones is a bit like citing the guy on the corner shouting that the world is going to end on Friday, yet again, just like every week, and that you have invisible psychic vampires clamped to your head.

I would hope they specify that sort of thing in the text as being some forms of product where the source DNA has been modified using trans-species components, eg: shark DNA in Strawberries to ma them frost resistant.

There has to be some way to delineate "breeding" from GMO, maybe whether or not there is a patent on the resulting DNA strands? Personally I'm not typically concerned about these but still opt to buy organic when I can, same with hormone free milk products.

What do you have against sharkberries?
apomorph said @ 3:39pm GMT on 10th Nov
Mostly just the inevitable sharkberrynado

If that doesn't become a new variety of Cap'n Crunch, I'll be very disappointed.

Define "organic." All of my food contains carbon atoms as it is.

If you're referring to IGF-1, levels in people who drink milk are 10% higher than those who don't, but the same is true if they drink soy milk. It's also destroyed by the digestive system, so it's fine for human consumption.

Good points, I had an argument (in person, not over the internet) with someone once about how could they be sure their "shade grown, ethically sourced" Coffee really was any of those things, and the same response can be used here: You have to trust he packaging. If it says USDA Organic then it is (supposedly) synthetic pesticide and herbicide free, and non-GMO. Though there does tend to be more "natural" herbicides and pesticides used instead, but those can be removed easier (or so I have been told).

Per hormones, IGF-1 (Insulin-like growth factor) is a result of your body processing more growth hormone (somatropin) and is a measurement of how much hormone your body is producing - there is a range this should be in and as you age it steadily decreases (ignoring childhood and puberty, most folks peak early 20's and it is a steady decline into old age... one could argue "old age" is a symptom of reduced somatropin / IGF-1 levels, and not the other way around). So yes, some variability around the norm is to be expected, and as an adult you probably want *more* not less. But as a child, particularly a pre-pubescebt one, increased levels of this hormone can induce changes in physiology earlier than what one might deem "typical". So when you see that dairy cattle are treated with BST (bovine somatropin) that is to make them larger and produce more milk, as well as to mature faster. The concern would be that the BST gets passed into the milk directly and some is absorbed through the gums directly into the bloodstream before digestion. At best it can be considered a risk mitigation.

You've been misinformed. The 'natural' pesticides and herbicides are not safer and are not less likely to be found on your produce. They're just sourced from natural sources (as are strychnine, nicotine and arsenic) and mostly unregulated.

"To quote Alex Jones"? Why the hell would you quote Alex Jones?
The document BTW has NOT yet been approved by Congress and the text was in fact released by the government.

But is he GMO or organic?
mego said @ 11:38pm GMT on 10th Nov
Hopefully, organic. Shorter shelf-life.
