Ford, who have made the F150 for about 150 years did not cancel production of the Ranger because they could not keep up with consumer demand. They did not do it because they are evil or somehow they benefit from selling huge vehicles in a way that they would not have benefitted from selling a similar number of smaller vehicles. Lucifer expressed great insight into consumer behavior as he was kicking everybody out of Hell, "They're responsible for themselves, they just hate to admit it." If Ford thought that there was 35 cents more in doing small vehicles, they would be doing it.

In 40+ years driving and 22 in the business of complaints about cars, I always hated Ford for their business practices, but I also always gave them credit for 1 thing: they know how to make money, and if they are not making a small pickup for the US, it means they don't think there is money there, and I would bet on them being right. Hateful and willing to sacrifice consumers rather than redesign a vehicle for $3, but probably right about the market.
