In search of a workable democracy

quote [ It's really an academic bias that assumes that the reason is the thing that has this kind of special unique place in democracy. We think of our ideas about how democracy works are supposed to be founded on the idea that it's possible to have public discourse where reason to some extent prevails. …I am, kind of, questioning that. ]

Towards a kinder, gentler politics.

Great seeing Natalie on here, she's the best

A few years ago, I would've agreed with you. Now she's doing podcasts with Obama's former speechwriter and Hillary Clinton. She's been kinda going off the rails the past few years and seems to be taking a hard right turn into neoliberal land.

I don't think I agree that could be called "going off the rails"
For one thing, if you want to participate in political conversation, surely you have to engage with people you don't necessarily agree with on 100% of the issues or solutions.
Also people change as they navigate the world, which is just natural. She's addressed this in some form or another herself.
What makes her great for me isn't that she is on the same page as me on everything, but that her arguments are well formed and well presented, and that she is reasonable and often has empathy when most wouldn't. Also her humour and aesthetic choices are fucking excellent
As for neoliberal, pretty sure she still considers herself a social democrat? Don't know if I care either way, she's not exactly making policy decisions

Yeah, this is a futile discussion for both of us I think. Just didn't want to leave you hanging thinking I was ignoring you. Let's just say hard disagree.

That kind of conversation is not at all futile for me, I'm open to any opinions and I find I always learn something new when people share their thoughts
I'll even buy the first round or two :D
Also don't get me wrong, I don't want to change your mind in any way
