On 8 July 2022, Shinzo Abe, former prime minister of Japan, was shot in the chest during a campaign speech near Yamato-Saidaiji Station in Nara at approximately 11:30 Japan Standard Time.[1][2]
According to The Guardian and various other sources, Abe was making a speech for the upcoming elections when he was shot up to three times from behind with a shotgun.[3][4] Abe suffered from a cardiopulmanary arrest and was transported to a local hospital with a chest wound, reported to have no vital signs at the hospital as of 12:07 JST.[1][5] Tetsuya Yamagami, a 42-year-old male from Nara Prefecture, was immediately apprehended on suspicion of attempted murder.
