This has been a well known "secret" for a while now, insurance companies haggle down the price to something that the health providers can stomach by doing this, if not they would get shortchanged, but hospitals tend to do the same shit for the uninsured that dont haggle anything down and get fucked up the ass. Unless you dont ever pay and they send you a lower bill as part of a "leniency"

The insurance companies would "get shortchanged" if they didn't mark up actual costs by 675 to 1,200% (as in another example in the article)? Even if that gives them the ability to haggle down to the halfway point, it only reduces the cost to 337% to 600% markup.
