The Realist's Guide to Keto Wines | Wine Folly

quote [ What makes a great keto wine? Many wines are keto-friendly but not all. Learn which wines to buy and which ones to avoid. ]

I am doing keto and annoyed by lack of nutrition info on booze. I will be posting my research.

You realize that nutritionally alcohol is basically a carbohydrate, right? And that the body will preferentially metabolize alcohol over fats? Per gram, alcohol contains more calories than sugar. "Keto wine" is an oxymoron.

I refuse to acknowledge that ever.
Booze is not food

I remember when there was more playful whimsy here. The last 5 or so years have really beaten us down instead of beating us off. We don't even do pun threads let alone limericks anymore.

I'm not trying to tell anyone else how to eat or presenting myself as an authority. Personally, I just wanted to know the relative scale of the wines so I could have a glass with my fancy cheeses and cured meats. It was an interesting article trying to address which wines were the least bad and affirms how hard it is to get nutrition info from suppliers. The article also advises abstaining from drinking initially.

I posted that Metalocalypse clip because it was tangentially related and I find it so funny I have never forgotten it. I thought it would ease tension. Apparently a clip from a comedy is serious business. Live and learn.

I chose keto not for the fad diet but because my girlfriend has done really well on it and the biggest thing I have to do in order to cut is stop eating delicious snacks. A low sugar/low carb rule eliminates the snacks. Most of the time I have been on SE I was between 113-128lbs at 5'7". I got chubby so I could build muscle and succeeded, now I want to expose that muscle.

This has been a short article about my personal life. Review and subscribe!

Maybe you should have said you're on a low carb diet rather than keto.

Also, based on what I've learned in this thread, it sounds like you should save the wine for your cheat day rather than have a glass every day with dinner.

If you downvote a fact it ceases to be a fact.

But if I downvote a Negative Nancy, do they become more encouraging about my goals?

(I don't hate you. Promise.)

How is this ridiculous post modded up?

Explain.

It is so much more complicated than that. Some of the metabolic pathways for alcohol are net energy negative.

The calorie is a measure of potential thermal energy, and is only in the vaguest sense related to nutrition. Your desk contains thousands of calories, but you would get no energy or other nutritional value if you ate it.

Alcohol burns well, which means it's energy dense. So does a christmas tree.

if youre doing keto, you have to stay under 100 carbs in my experience once you go over 150, most effects of weight loss dissipate

Everything else I eat is very low carb so I am way under that. It's pretty much meat, green vegetables, dairy, and a drink with dinner. It's been working just fine so far.

It sounds like you're going along the lines of Timothy Ferriss' The 4 Hour Body. He designed a diet to accomplish what you're trying. His one proviso was that it had to allow a glass of wine with dinner. It's pretty good; look it up if you're interested.

Also, look up the latest issue of New Scientist (9th January, 2021) and read the article on low-carb diets—absolutely worth reading. It's possibly available through your locally available eyepatch-wearing, parrot-sporting, "Arrrrr"-spouting purveyor of fine illegitimate digital goods.

I don't know what keto is, so as far as I am concerned, everything in moderation is your atkins keto paleo paradise.

I just believe all things in moderation, especially moderation.

There's detailed nutrition information for a twinkie, because Hostess knows exactly what it put in there, and stuffed it full of enough antibiotics to be sure it wouldn't change.

Anything fermented would require rather a lot of labwork to find out exactly what the one or more possibly very specific strains of yeast and other microorganisms did to it. Even the nutritional information for a steak is at best an estimate. Life doesn't come with a UPC code.
