Joe Biden selects Kamala Harris as his running mate

quote [ If elected, she would be the nation’s first female, first Black and first Asian American vice president. ]

Biden locking down the crucial swing state of California

Mr Make Matters Worse @ByYourLogic
Kamala is a perfect VP: someone you were told you were excited for but had to drop out of the primary before voting even began due to lack of interest, but not before morally castigating the guy who picked her and then backtracking

Kamala Harris @KamalaHarris
There was a little girl in California who was bussed to school. That little girl was me. #DemDebate https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D-HTFfcXUAEkmJJ.jpg

Law Boy, Esq. @The_Law_Boy
now it's time for Kamala to help bury Trump's campaign just like she helped bury evidence that would have exonerated hundreds of innocent prisoners during her tenure as California's Attorney General

https://perchance.org/pgk4gv0c6p

etc etc

So to recap, Biden recently said he'd be in favor of increasing police funding nationwide, and now he picked california's ex top cop as a running mate.

This is the blue lives matter ticket.

Joe Biden is practically a neo-lib spirit animal at this point; picking Harris is painfully on brand.

It’s the most unsurprising and probably least inspirational choice he could have made (I guess Klobuchar could have been worse, but she withdrew), but you’re exactly right: Biden’s never really been known for surprising or inspirational. That, unfortunately, is the horse we’re stuck with for this race. They’re still better than the shit-flinging narcissist and the embalmed corpse.

Some positive takes because I could use them -

Biden has a pretty good take here -

“I want the person who questions me on matters of race.”
That’s actually a pretty great reason to pick a woman of color, and Kamala after she called him out. Whoever thought of that argument needs a raise. - Harris is terrible on race but people in CA barely know that much less Florida.

And the best Trump could come up with is "She'd be a fine choice." thus -

Far less ready-made oppo on Harris as there was with Bass (Castro) or Rice (Benghazi, etc.). And hard for Trump to take issue with her career as a prosecutor while running on “law and order.”

Oh, who even fuckin knows. It's such a morbid comedy of errors that they're practically playing hot potato with the win. Whoever thought to kill the post office now hit a stroke of luck though and that's definitely going to work in Trump's favor. Plus, never discount Trump's ability to just buy a win before the election. He pulls the strings for something like a 6 month UBI and all is forgotten. I doubt they'd be willing to stoop to that, but a win really isn't out of the question for him. It's likely to come down to those last weeks of October and if it's still looking like a tie I would lean towards the incumbent to pull off the win.

Coincidentally, these are the exact same odds as in our final forecast in 2016!!!
(Clinton 71%, Trump 29%)
As was also the case in 2016, our model gives Trump a MUCH higher chance than other statistical models.

It’s going to be a lot tighter than it needed to be, given that the incompetent POSOTUS will be looking at close to 250,000 dead on his watch by the election - that’s almost 100 9/11’s, more than the Civil War and more than WWI+Korea+Vietnam added together. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dumpster managed to kill more Americans than WW2 by the time he leaves office in January. Or hell, by Christmas. And if somehow he doesn’t leave, then it’ll be even more like being locked up with a serial killer. The best scenario is that enough people are angry at the ongoing murder shitshow that it doesn’t matter that the Democrats are running an old shoe and a Nerese Campbell cosplayer.
hellboy said @ 8:55pm GMT on 12th Aug
The first point is a good argument for choosing a woman of color.

As for the second point, playing defense against Trump is about the stupidest thing possible. He’s a sociopathic narcissist, he’ll flat out make shit up if he has to, he does it constantly. That’s how he walked through two dozen GOP candidates last time without even having a campaign budget. He’s also a huge coward, so the best way to deal with him is not to try to give him less of a target but to go right at him and demonstrate you’re not afraid of him. Part of the problem is that Washington is full of people incapable of doing that.
HoZay said @ 4:37am GMT on 15th Aug
Harris is capable of bringing it, based on her work in senate hearings, and prosecuting Trump will be her job in the campaign.

She’s being set up to be the next president after Biden. Though if he has a stroke before the election - despite being in good enough shape to go cycling, while the Dumpster has trouble with ramps and glasses of water and pictures of elephants - we could be in the fun position of having a nominee that no one actually voted for (and whose last campaign was a trainwreck).

Ebichuman said @ 12:01pm GMT on 13th Aug
If we want a viable 3rd party candidate to have any chance, we need a runoff voting system based on popular vote, not electoral college. With those factors, sure, I can see a 3rd party candidate being viable.

Frankly, if I had to prioritize any nationwide problem to fix right now, it is first-past-the-post voting combined with a partisan primary selection system. It pretty much ensures that we are always stuck with some undesirable compromise between two parties.
conception said @ 8:01pm GMT on 14th Aug
We'd need to get rid of first pass the post actually. Runnoff might get some 3rd party candidates in but they'd effectively be voting in block with the two big parties.

Harris has a pretty solid record of punishing poor and black people and kissing the asses of the rich and corrupt. She dated Willie Brown for some time and either didn’t notice he was a crook or didn’t care - there’s good reason to believe he helped her get her career started.

Our best hope of seeing the GOP RICO-ed is probably letting Leticia James go after them.

Have you guys watched video of Joe Biden in the last 6 months? He didn't pick’ Kamala Harris— he cant even pick a matching pair of socks. She was chosen by Perez/Obama to fight Trump when slow Joe stumbles off the stage.

You should be outraged that 1. No one in your party stepped up to battle Trump for the Presidency in the last 6 months and 2. They’ve chosen a looney tunes candidate who is going to drive away everyone who looked on in horror at the debacles in Seattle, Portland, Chicago, and Minneapolis since April. And by that, I mean everyone who owns property and all of my formerly ultra-liberal friends and relatives who recently bought guns.

Your problem isn’t Trump— it’s your own party.

Good luck in November. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if you lose the house too.

Everyone in their right mind should vote for the Democratic ticket, because if Trump isn't removed from office there won't be a progressive agenda to fight for. The only exception is for people in deep blue states, who can vote green just to remind the DNC that there are voters who aren't moderate Republicans that they should be trying to appeal to.

It's possible to be unimpressed with the DNC's insistence on shitting on the left - they gave AOC 60 whole seconds to speak at the convention, but also gave speaking slots (and more time) to John Kasich and Meg Whitman, who are Republicans - and yet still recognize reality.

The criticisms lobbed on Harris, especially, are things Sanders supported.

Three-strikes law. Tough on crime legislation. Pro-cop, Pro-gun. SESTA/FOSTA.

Bernie supported and sponsored these bills and regulations. It wasn't until 2016 when Bernie changed his mind on criminal justice. Continue to criticize our politicians? Yes. But many are willing to overlook or forgive Bernie for those, and not Harris or anybody else.
