Exactly that bit, about how special you are because that choice requires a large dose of will power. Is the kind of rhetoric that might lead someone to feel entitled

Yeah, totally agree. It's some bullshit. That's similar to the "meritocratic" sort of mindset that permeates the professional managerial class. It has potential for maybe being the stimulus for encouraging people to be more mindful of the type of behavior that might lead one to watch out for supernormals... but I feel like it's more indicative of an elitist hubris, ignorance of survivorship bias.
