Say No to the “Cashless Future” — and to Cashless Stores

quote [ The issue goes beyond restaurants and retail stores; other services that are built around electronic payments should also offer cash options (or cash-like anonymous stored value cards). ]

While I can relate to this, it has often been brought up that using cash efficiently needs a stable financial infrastructure. I'm sure though, that corruption won't be quenched by simply abolishing paper money.

Before we can do this, we need to overhaul the service industry. Some restaurants in Chinatown only take cash because in the end, they lose out on deadbeat customers that don’t tip or leave change just because a waiter rubbed them the wrong way.

So get rid of tipping. Pay everyone the state’s minimum or more. Then we can talk about a cashless future.

You can't live on minimum wage.

or more. I said "or more."

Cause if you didn't already know, people in the service industry get paid less than the minimum wage.

The easy solve is off-chain or secondary chain 'cash' cards.

And for convenience, those secondary chain cards could be made of paper.

I vaguely recall that under the common law one's duty to fulfill the monetary part of a contract is to make the payment available, if they don't take it that is their problem. Contract fulfilled.

That's what legal tender means. All debts private and public. The kicker is that no one is obligated to give you that credit in the first place; if a business requires payment in advance, they can specify the means. Once they do, though, they have to accept cash or refuse payment.
