It's more like a Clever Hans machine. Human researchers rated words on a one-dimensional happiness scale and then did a bit of sparse coding to find a set of k "basic stories". They bumped up k until they ran out of names for all the basis vectors and then called it Uncanny AI.

When AI can pump out romance novels, childrens's books, and any other kind of story by the thousands every day, truly it will be a wondrous time.

Here's a thought. I originally envisioned entrepreneurs using AI to generate huge numbers of books to sell on Amazon, but why can't people run the AI software themselves? Tell the software what kind of story you want, and it spits out an ebook for you to read. Give the software feedback about what you liked and didn't like about the book. The next book is more tailored to your preferences.

And why not use something like EEG while you're reading so the computer can tailor the story to you as you read it? ;)

The computer knows you better than you know yourself.

That's what we're working towards. The scary part is who owns the computers that will soon (next decade or so) provide this as a service.
