A Troubling Discovery in the Deepest Ocean Trenches

quote [ In the Mariana Trench, the lowest point in any ocean, every tiny animal tested had plastic pollution hiding in its gut. ]

I'm pretty sure I know what the Great Filter is and that we're running smack into it.

I'm sad, we still don't even rate on the Kardashev scale.

You say that, but at one point wood was something that wasn't biodegradable.

What's weird is that we're concerned about this, but we haven't put in the money to really investigate what the effect is of all this microplastic. We know it gets into everything, including us, via the foodchain, but we don't have any grasp on the full impact.

We seem to know more about what birth control does to fish (many fish can change sex as needed by their colony, and the left-over medications in urine are affecting that; estrogen can also make the fish more placid and thus easier to prey on... though I expect a follow-up to determine that the things eating them also slowly become less motivated to eat those animals... we'll see.)

So, vegan great white sharks on the horizon?

Nah. That takes a lot of effort. Especially the part where you have to constantly tell everyone about it. I figure the sharks will just quit reproducing and start watching a lot of Netflix while shark-masturbating... however that works.

Not every species is lucky enough to have articulated appendages that reach all the way to the genitals.
