Federal Court Rules Male-Only Draft Registration is Unconstitutional

quote [ In a decision issued on Friday, Judge Gray Miller of the federal District Court for the Southern District of Texas ruled that the US government's system of mandatory male-only draft registration is unconstitutional. ]

This declaratory judgment only lets two people avoid registering. If it makes it through appeal congress will need to look in to broadening it or ending it. Ending it completely would definitely be a nice bit of news.

Btw, does anyone know if Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles still holds up? I remember seeing 5 minutes of it and liking it but younger me had inconsistent taste.

As much as I love the first film (13 year old me creamed his pants when he saw the trailer with the Blur -Song 2 track playing over it), I have never watched any of the sequels or the animated series and this bugs me (pun intended). I've read that Roughnecks ends on a cliffhanger which was never resolved due to cancellation.

EDIT: Got the year wrong. I turned 13 shortly after it's release.

You're not missing much. The sequels are not nearly as good.

The original movie is absolute gold, though, and one of the only movies I consider better than the book its based on.

As far as the sequel movies go, I wouldn't bother. The "CGI Starship Troopers: Invasion" was the only one I felt was actually worth the watch, and that was mainly to see the new art design and how they brought it more in line with the book over the story.

Fucking finally. Men throw this one in women's faces as to why we shouldn't be equal. I don't think anyone should be drafted, but if we're going to have a draft, then we should make it egalitarian.

This.

"We, men, made the draft exclusively require men, and are actively fighting the inclusion of women (really, anyone that isn't a straight, cis, and male) in the military. This is somehow proof that women can't be equal and feminism if the real problem."

I think rich kids on the right should be drafted and sent to the front lines first.

Every true conservative knows that those people are the best we've got; courageous achievers and strong leaders who will win the war that much faster. That last thing we should ever do is allow whiny feminists or flip-flopping Liberals anywhere near the killing zones.

It's all about what's best for the country, right?

That's why conservatives are so committed to perpetuating racial and economic inequality so there will always be enough desperate volunteers to spare us the horror of the draft!
