I like the old knotty pine wood paneling on the walls. It took me a long time to figure out why, but I think I got it - it's dark. White or light-colored paint on the walls just feels sterile, antiseptic, empty. Darker colors feel warmer, more cozy, like you're being hugged by your home. I can get bright, open and sunny if I step outside, I don't want it inside too.

My grandma's couch has had the plastic protective cover on it since the day she got it - about 25 years ago. I'm not sure if that's a black / South African thing or just my gran
