People Walked a Little Differently During Medieval Times

quote [ Roland Warzecha runs a Youtube channel where he delves into the world of medieval weapons and combat. If you want to learn something about Viking shields and swords, medieval spears and combat techniques, spend some time there. ]

Just because nerding out is what I feel like doing on a Friday.

Actually, walking was probably not significantly different. Even today, in cultures that go entirely barefoot, walking is walking and a heel strike is normal on stable, familiar ground. What is different is running or traveling on uncertain footing. In those cases, yes, the toes and ball of the foot strike first.

Did that last night. The lights were off in the area where I live and I have to walk down a hill to get home. I was doing that in order to be ready to move with ease in case trouble arose.

It looks a little theropod-like.
And a lot Monty Python-like.

I wonder if this guy studied non developed societies that don't wear footwear at all.

after I moved onto 5 finger toe vibrams and running ball first I found it to be a lot easier on my body. I transitioned to walking that way and found it better as well. I wear sandals primarily and have walked with a semblance of ball first walking for a long time. I would suggest that it is a superior way of walking in terms of wear and tear on the body and it's not at all uncomfortable once you get used to it :)

I'd be really careful with that - toe-walking is really common in my clinical populations and if you do it long enough it will fuck up muscles and tendons in your legs.

Deal with a lot of high-heel wearing strippers do we?

(Yes I'm jealous)

One of my previous advisers actually did behavior analytic work at a brothel in Nevada once.

There's all sorts of issues with high-heels (NSFW)
