Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain -
If the conscious mind--the part you consider to be you--is just the tip of the iceberg, what is the rest doing?

I was going to ask why, in a thread talking about democracy, you chose a quote that never uses the word. Don’t get me wrong, It’s a nice quote, just not germane. But since you’re cherry-picking presidential quotes to bolster an otherwise unwinnable argument, I’m wondering if you have any Roosevelt quotes that rail against the illegitimacy of the John Quincy Adams administration?
No?
Perhaps Teddy’s dark musing on the antidemocratic nature of the Hayes’ presidency?
Nothing there either?
How about the patriotic resistance to the Harrison presidency?
Bupkus?
Curious that. I understand now why you went with a series of vague bromides about “patriotism”. Because there’s no evidence whatsoever the old Teddy shared your repellant view of American democracy. You’re just ventriloquizing the dead in an attempt to bolster a spurious position.
This may come as a shock to you, but the US is not a direct democracy.
Not all democracies are direct democracies.
In fact, most of them aren’t.
tl;dr
Losing is the most important part of democracy

I was going to ask why, in a thread talking about democracy, you chose a lengthy quote that never even uses the word. Don’t get me wrong, It’s a nice quote, just not germane. But since you’re cherry-picking presidential quotes to shore up an otherwise untenable argument, I’m wondering if you have any Roosevelt quotes that rail against the legitimacy of the John Quincy Adams administration?
