Yep. The sad thing is Filipinos just accept it matter of factly as a way of life. Almost all famous Filipino celebrities have fair complexion and the ones with darker skinned or not as pretty are relegated to comedic or sidekick roles. And most of them are mixed race. Over the past decade, most of the Miss Universe contestants no longer had the natural Filipino beauty of yesteryears.
When my former nanny got married, her niece was the flower girl. The girl has dark brown skin so they put so much make up on her to make her look white and she looked like what a mime with bruises.
Dark skinned people are treated poorly.
So when Duterte ran for President, majority of Filipinos gravitated to him. Even though he's a corrupt politician and have ordered his men to kill dozens of people while he was mayor, he represented the rest of the country that people in the northern Philippines look down on.
