quote [ "As for the regime, I am hopeful we will find a way to separate that regime from this system," Pompeo said. "The North Korean people I'm sure are lovely people and would love to see him go. ]
So the administration wants to help the people of NK be free of their tyrant. What could go wrong?
You know, except for war with China and the utter destruction of South Korea and all the Americans there.
This is why I started out yesterday's post by clarifying that Trump is still an asshole, even if he makes a decision I like. This is foolish bluster devoid of intention at best. At worst... We'll meet again Don't know where Don't know when But I know we'll meet again some sunny day (the music from the end of Dr. Strangelove)

After midnight, the amendment by Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) repealing the 60-word long 9-11 inspired Authorized Use of Military Force law (AUMF) was stripped by Paul Ryan from the 2018 defense authorization bill without debate, a floor vote or consultation with anyone but the Republican leadership. This allows Trump to continue using military violence without congressional authorization.

From "The American Conservative"
9/11 Doesn’t Justify Today’s Wars Kill the 2001 authorization for war. Obama tried and failed to end the perpetual war...don't see it happening any time soon |

There was an interesting piece on This American Life about the reality of the NK nuclear program I heard on my way home this evening:
https://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/620/to-be-real?act=1 "Earlier this month, North Korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile… one powerful enough, news reports said, to reach Alaska. People were shocked. But maybe that was because we were not being real with ourselves about what was going on in North Korea. How did we get to this point? Producer David Kestenbaum has been listening to a podcast called Arms Control Wonk that explains it. (17 1/2 minutes)" |

The most recent Sam Harris podcast was with Mark Bowden and it was about North Korea. I recommend it highly; https://www.samharris.org/podcast/item/must-we-accept-a-nuclear-north-korea
