TV’s biggest writers may go on strike next week, here’s what you need to know

quote [ This could impact your summer TV plans

nless a miracle happens, Hollywood's TV and film writers will agree to strike next week. If anyone remembers the devastating effect the last writers’ strike had on the film and television industry, there’s reason to be concerned.

“If the screenplay is so important as everyone in the industry so piously protests, then why are screenwriters treated like shit?” ]

In this Golden Age of Television, writers are getting paid less. Weird, huh?

I wish the VFX industry workers would do the same. Unfortunately the supply far outweighs the demand, so they continue to be treated like shit.

Small brightside... this might be the only way we see the Doctor Horrible sequel happen.

As long as GoT/Rick and Morty/Archer/And maybe Bojack Horseman are sealed- I'm okay with this and might actually prefer a strike for some side project creativity ala Dr. Horrible.

I'm not sure this is going to turn out how they want to. It'd be kind of like cabbies going on strike to protest uber drivers undermining their wages. A lot of their job security is being hollowed out by the youtubers and such. We've got a lot of people clinging to dieing models to survive and they're not looking around and realizing this is a systemic issue we're dealing with. I was having a "conversation" with my dad today and he says kids don't want to work for a living. And when I asked him how much the company he's employed with was hiring for he said $13 and thought that was a lot. 27k a year for a position that's incredibly physical. To try and explain, I went checking inflation rates because of how much I was making when I was younger, and the value of a dollar has been almost halved since 1990.

Sooo fucked.

The industry could save money by allowing bots to take over the writing duties for CSI, NCIS and all other crime/legal/medical dramas.

Give it time.

To be fair the last strike did directly lead to 'Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog'

The last strike gave us "Quantum of Solace" and the second season of "Heroes," amongst other unmitigated disasters, so I need to have this resolved as soon as possible.
