Des Moines Woman Says She Voted Twice For Trump Because "The Polls Are Rigged"

quote [ A Des Moines woman has been charged with Election Misconduct, a Class D felony, after allegedly voting twice for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. Terri Rote says she was afraid her first ballot for Trump would be changed to a vote for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. ]

That's pretty much the long and short of it. My point is to use that as a preamble to a recent interview on NPR's "Fresh Air" about how rigging an election via voter fraud the way Trump claims is nigh impossible, if not nonexistant.

That dovetails with the Fresh Air interview's larger point: It's not the fictional busloads of illegal immigrants voting for someone that could swing an election. You'd need millions of fraudulent votes cast, which takes a ton of warm bodies, is time-consuming, and would be easily caught (as in the case of the Des Moines woman).

They who control the magic computer-boxes that tally the votes and the computer-boxes themselves are where fraud is likely to happen, and where we seem ill-equipped to deal with it.

This also belies the voter suppression goal of Voter ID laws; they're nothing to do with fraud an everything to do with keeping the poor and minorities from voting.

If anyone else was curious and doesn't want to do a lot of digging. From the UC Berkeley report:
There is a serious flaw in the key management of the crypto code that otherwise should protect the AV-TSx from memory card attacks. Unless election officials avail themselves of the option to create new cryptographic keys, the AV-TSx uses a default key. This key is hard-coded into the source code for the AV-TSx, which is poor security practice because, among other things, it means the same key is used in every such machine in the U.S. Worse, the particular default key in question was openly published two and a half years ago in a famous research paper, and is now known by anyone who follows election security, and can be found through Google. The result is that in any jurisdiction that uses the default keys rather than creating new ones, the digital signatures provide no protection at all.

I was listening to "The Hack" video while reading the linked Berkeley report, and didn't notice the video had reached the end. The next video that auto-played was titled "HILLARY CLINTON HAS RIGGED THE VOTING MACHINES AND JULIAN ASSANGE"

So if the polls were rigged, then that means she thinks Trump is actually more likely to win than Clinton. So why would she need to vote twice?

Logic? Seriously?

The logic she is using is "Fight fire with fire". She feels justified in her actions because she is deluded in to thinking that the only way to deal with a deck stacked against you is to cheat and somehow she is righting a perceived wrong instead of doing wrong herself. People will do all sorts of mental gymnastics in order to convince themselves that the horrible things they do are OK because deep down they know they are a good person and the people they do them to are evil or less then real human beings.

I think everybody should vote 4 times, once for each candidate.
