quote [ The suit alleges that "Uber has a simple but illegal business plan: to fix prices among competitors and take a cut of the profits." Specifically, the lawsuit cites violations of the Sherman Act, an 1890 law that encourages competition.
US District Judge Jed Rakoff is also trying to figure out whether Uber covered up using a private investigator in order to gather more information about Meyer and his lawyer after they filed the case. ] Why aren't we cutting Uber more slack? After all, they're targeting taxi companies, which are (as I've heard) pretty much corruption personified.

You tell the angels in heaven you never seen evil so singularly personified as you did in the face of the company hired to drive you.

Because taxi companies may or may not be corrupt, but there's a point of liability there that Uber is trying its damnedest to avoid.

Please note, my commentary was more of a poke at an attitude expressed in the previous article about Uber's "business practices."

Perhaps you're not-so-subtly poking at a comment I made in a previous post about Uber. I'm not defending their business practices so much as their business model. The service itself meets an obvious demand and creates a challenge to traditional taxi services to update, adapt, and improve. That being said, Uber should absolutely be held accountable for unfair treatment and compensation of their drivers, liability, and obviously corrupt business practices.

You're getting rather close to "at least they made the trains run on time" territory.

Maybe if we were talking about a political entity. But we're in fact talking about a business - one which consumers are free to use or not. And sure, in making that decision consumers should ideally be equipped with all the facts regarding their business practices. But, like it or not, Uber's success is due primarily to offering a service that there is obviously a great demand for.
