Photographer Uses Drone to Capture Social Inequality Across The World

quote [ American Photographer Johnny Miller became interested in social inequality and segregation when he moved to Cape Town, in South Africa. The country has barely recovered from apartheid, which although officially ended a quarter of century ago, traces of the racial segregation in the form of roads, rivers, “buffer zones” of empty land, and other barriers still exist separating the rich from the poor, the blacks from the whites. ]

Interesting. But You don’t need a drone though to see the contrast. I crossed a pedestrian overpass in Bangkok, and on one side we’re high rise modern apartments with satellite dishes and swimming pools, while on the other were slums with corrugated shacks and women walking areound with towels after showering in the street wth a garden hose - behind a visual barrier. Super depressing, but they all had smiles on their faces.

Liberals and conservatives clearly prefer to live in different kinds of communities. Liberals say they prefer more urban, walkable neighborhoods, and conservatives less dense communities with larger homes. But studies show that homeowners of both parties support restricting development around them. And they do so in spite of their own ideologies — whether conservative voters might otherwise value free markets, or whether liberals value policies that aid the poor.
