Penn State's 98-Year-Old Outing Club Is No Longer Allowed to Go Outside

quote [ A key issue for administrators was that the Outing Club frequently visit locations with poor cell phone coverage. This wasn't an issue during the Coolidge administration, but now that cell phones exist, students are apparently expected to remain glued to them at all times. ]

From the comments: this club funds itself off start of year dues and alumni donations, and charges students next to nothing for the trips. Penn State offers their own Outdoors Adventures program, and doubled the fee for them shortly before the ruling.

Follow the money.

In loco parentis? "Loco" is right. More like non petendam parentis! #consitesne? #insummo #rismag

Are you having a stroke? Is it because you went outside?

I am making Latin jokes; obviously I have never, ever, been outside.

I took a year of Latin in undergrad just so I could chuckle mildly at your joke. WORTH EVERY DAMN PENNY

Getting the joke is the entire and only point of a liberal arts education.

Alternate option: budget for an emergency satphone. Kinda surprised such a club wouldn't have one already, particularly since they've been going for a hundred years and have probably put together quite a few emergency prep kits.

I read the headline and assumed that a 98 year old university "Outing" club publishes details of closeted homosexuals. Probably while wearing straw boaters.

No, it's a club that outs 98 year old homosexuals.

Ah. They're the hardest ones to Out, because they've had so much practice at being In.
