The rats evicted from paradise

quote [ Palmyra had been an isolated and tranquil Pacific atoll, until a 20th-Century invasion of black rats arrived, setting the whole atoll’s ecology hurtling down a different path. ]

The approximately 90% success rate of eradication efforts is why Island Conservation simply must accept DARPA funding to develop gene drive organisms to eradicate rodents from islands. 90% is too poor. And everybody knows that DARPA was created, and awads funding, for the protection of seabirds. No, it really has nothing to do with other DARPA priorities at all.

The approximately 90% success rate of eradication efforts is why Island Conservation simply must accept DARPA funding to develop gene drive rodents to eradicate rats et al from islands. 90% is too poor. Thank god for DARPA. Everybody knows that DARPA was created, and spends Dept of Defense dollars, for the protection of seabirds. No, it really has nothing to do with other DARPA priorities at all. DARPA just loves the stormy petrel.
