IMO, one of the 3 men who made modern comics. Ditko, Kirby and Lee, in the course of making a week-to-week living transformed comic from 40-50's "golden age" into that 60's "silver age"(those labels are reversed IMO).

Ditko's line and psychedelic sense were monumental. In my teens it was just too stylized and I couldn't get in to it, but in the last 10 or so years I have been obsessed. I have a collection of pre-superhero monster books in which Ditko features prominently on it's way to me as I write this.

Steve Ditko was a fervent Objectivist and kind of a nut. Having Stan Lee as a partner was easy on NOBODY. I always thought their feud was 1/2 childish. Lee wrote the Spiderman character. Ditko's art WAS the Spiderman look. Neither could have done it without the other in the same way.

There is a tear in the All-seeing Eye of Agamatto tonight.

Having him found dead, alone in his apartment, days after his death is kind of par for the sad course.
