I find it interesting how few news outlets are pointing out how the U.S. basically made Castro happen. We backed a dictator that allowed U.S. businesses to use Cuba as their own vice-ridden playground and (sometimes literally) screw over the citizens, so it's little wonder that when anyone overthrew Batista, they'd have a lock on the populace's loyalties long enough to take power.

As for the Communist slant, that was something else to thank the U.S. for in the form of the CIA and the Dulles Brothers. Nearly every revolution in Central America went to a dictatorship because they'd seen the democracies the U.S. had overthrown when they didn't let American interests run roughshod over them, so their only way to keep the spooks out of their countries was via an iron-fisted police state.

I'm sorry to say you are mistaken. Castro was assassinated by the sheer power of freedom and democracy radiating off of the US of A. Killed in his prime at only 90 years of age, experts feel that a major thorn in Americas side was avoided by snuffing him out early.

All true and it's even a little worse than that: Castro started out as a big fan of the United States. He loved baseball and wrote at least one letter to the US president. If they had supported him instead of Batista Cuba would've been pro-US.

I see lots of news reports on the TV, showing jubilant Cuban-Americans in Florida. I guess networks can't afford to have reporters in Cuba anymore.
