It would be fun to setup a small render farm on a bunch of fast but cheap phones. There are several Linux options for Android devices, and most pro render engines have a Linux version. I'm guessing the various GPU based engines aren't compatible, though, just CPU.

it is possible. Some phones can run a GNU/Linux distro, I think the problem you would run into is being limited to wifi networking. Having too many devices on one network would slow it down.
