PHONE KILLS HUMANS!

quote [ Two people suffocated and several others were reportedly injured after a woman dropped her cell phone into a cesspool in Xinxiang City, Henan province, China. ]

I really don't know what to make of this story or what category to place it in.

I do know it had to be shared though.

You won't be thinking that when you're eighty and tea is the only thing that lets you go to the bathroom.

Such a person could be called "tea-mobile".
arrowhen said @ 12:17pm GMT on 10th Jun
Too much tea, though, and they might find themselves needing to SPRINT to the bathroom.

I plan on being fat and rich enough that when I need relief, all I have to do is ring ma bell for a servant.

Even with that boost to your income you'll still be a virgin.

What amazes me is that people just kept going into the cesspool despite everyone else not coming back out. I guess human nature to save other humans is stronger than we generally credit.

A worthy observation, but kind of nullified by the fact that the first guy to jump in did so to save a fucking cell phone.

But it wasn't his -- ah the noble human spirit!

Not the least bit nullified. People can save people and cellphones.

And after he died, everyone else was like, "Ooh, free phone!"

It's the collision of heroic action and human ignorance. The truth is, heroic acts are often just impulsive actions that luckily turn out for the best. Carrying an injured soldier off a battlefield, rescuing a baby from a fire...these are stupid, risky, impulsive acts that we laud when they are successful. After countless stories of praising "Don't think, act", this is what you get.
Onix said @ 2:17am GMT on 10th Jun
I do not think it was a heroic action of any sort in the first place. Just an over apreciation of the value of a material item over human life. As a person who actually had to jump into cesspols and other crap infused places for a living in the worst era of my life, I can really tell you that I would never try to rescue a phone or anything like that from a place of the sort.

Trying to rescue people from a situation like that, on the other hand, would be another thing I would not do, unless I had the appropiate equipment at hand. In situations like that, as I have been instructed to, trying to save a human life ussually means that you are going to be killed also. And that brings you to a complex situation, because you are bassically being witness to people loosing their lives while you and probably nobody else but an special trained team of people can do nothing about it.

The situation is not comparable also to a fire or dragging a fellow soldier in the battlefield. There is actually a chance that you will be okay, even if it is a small one. But once you enter a pit full of methane and other gases, with no breathing aids, you are screwed.

In the end the warranty wasn't honored because the phone got wet...
