Mafia Day 3- Is CapnSilver still playing?

He is, he's just had some issues. Such as referring to himself in third person.

None of you have any conception of how much trouble the town is in with the investigator dead from mafia-ing.

That's pretty bad.

PLayer list.
Moriati- Dead by Lynch- Townie
Eggboy- Dead by Mafia- Townie
conception- Dead by Mafia- Investigator
-_- Lynched- Townie.

As conception awakes, in freefall towards the glowing pit of fiery death below him, he can but sigh. The carefully crafted notes he had been collecting, wrinkled and clutched in his hand, soon alight and turn to ash as he lands in the pool of magma with a plop. The ground shakes; the gods are pleased with the sacrifice and demand more.

Those notes looked pretty important, but at least the gods are happy.

The time for volcanoing was nigh. The village moved as one and swooped down upon brat#3, both figuratively and literally due to jetpacks.
As she tumbled into the fiery depths below, brat proclaimed her innocence. "I'm innocent," she cried her final words to any within earshot.

She was not innocent.

KingPellinore not really care, either.

I vote for arch2ngel , He voted for conception yesterday and I don't like the fact that he will not vote off brat#3 because of out of game familiarity.

I voted for biblebeltdrunk yesterday. I voted for conception on Day One. But you are right, I'm not voting for Brat#3 due to an old familiarity (though it's been quite a while since we've spoken - hi brat!) So... guess I'll return the favor and vote for you, shiftace. :)

I must have read the wrong day. Being that you voted for conception on day one instead of day two changes my mind a bit. I will recant my vote for you and now place it on lilmookiesquire who did vote for conception on day two and against the will of the volcano gods voted for an unproved sacrifice on day one.

Brat#3 is still my only guess, because of reasons.

I vote for KingPellinore. The gang-up on brat seems unjustified unless there is some night-time collusion going on, and KP seems to be the head cheerleader.
midden said @ 3:09pm GMT on 16th Mar
Hmm. If conception was the investigator, why did he vote for -_-, a townie? Or was that to give him cover on the first day?

I didn't even know there was an investigator. Are there other roles we aren't told exist? Is there a doctor, a sheriff, an escort? Is there a usual mafia to townie ratio? Re-reading the initial post, I see that this is a "vanilla-ish" game.

Am I asking to be offed by even saying these things?

I'm getting paranoid.
CapnSilver said @ 2:01am GMT on 17th Mar [Score:1 Informative]
For clarification: it's pretty vanilla, there are no wacky roles. With the numbers of people we had there was no way to balance the town/scum ratio using only powerless roles.
mego said @ 5:36pm GMT on 16th Mar
I believe you can only investigate one person per night. It's possible the person he investigated was a townie, so he had to guess for his lynch vote. There are sometimes other special roles, like in some games there is a person who can choose a person to protect during the night at well... I'm not so sure about this one though.

lilmookieesquire said @ 2:53am GMT on 17th Mar
Ya, I'd assume that the investigator found a townie the first night so they only knew at least one person to *not* vote for.

But that doesn't tell us too much.
midden said @ 3:57am GMT on 17th Mar
It is unusual for someone to abstain? I figured first round, there wasn't much to go on, but second, -_- had a lot of first-hand knowledge of Moriati's final moments.

Doing this in a post forum feels very strange to me. I've only played in person, where you can mingle and talk and keep an eye out for which people are shmoozing and watch eyes as people place votes etc.

I'm going to have to get out the graph paper and start building voting matrixes.
lilmookieesquire said @ 12:43pm GMT on 17th Mar
I think it's considered annoying because it's basically denying information via votes in the beginning. That said, I didn't realize I was abstaining. I feel naughty about that.

Ya, sometimes I get frustrated playing mafia online because when people hunker-down and don't talk- there's no clues like eye-contact or mingling, so when I'm stuck I generally try to encourage talking- otherwise it's just basically random guessing (which you could argue that's what online mafia boils down to in the first place, but I'd like to believe it's more controlled than that.

I'm personally of the opinion that, while mafia players tend to be pretty split up/random on SE, that the voting patterns can reveal chinks in mafia armor.
lilmookieesquire said @ 3:19am GMT on 17th Mar
There's definitely a brat dogpile last round... and this round... which seems odd to me.

As far as I can tell, last round, -_- was in the lead, but Mego, baron, and Bible Belt drunk voted for brat#3... Mego being the last one to do it- and I'm curious as to why. Seems kind of last minute and -_- was in the lead, so I don't see what voting for brat#3 would have done except putting us closer to a double lynch...

But- that said... Archangel defending brat#3 seems odd to me as well. So I'd assume that either Mego--biblebelt--baron are a unit (anti brat block) or brat--angel are a unit...

As for votes............

On day one...

Conception and eggboy were killed by the mafia, so I wonder if it's random or if there was a reason.

Eggboy (townie) had cited for conception (investigator)
Conception voted for moriatri (townie) and eggboy changed his vote to follow...

Mori voted for conception...

So on day one the most suspicious people seem to be townies all voting for townies...

Day two...

Seems more like a cluster fuck.

So... any ideas?

lilmookieesquire said @ 3:21am GMT on 17th Mar
Actually... Out of biblebelt, megu,baron... Bbd's was the first one to vote... so I'd assume that maybe King P, pushing brat, would make more sense. So I assume that kp, megu, baron would be an anti brat block.

Archangel and brat.

Can anyone skim their voting history and see if there is anything insightful? I'm on my phone and thinking time is almost over.

arch2ngel said @ 9:25am GMT on 17th Mar
Yeah, I've been opposed to the Brat#3 bandwagon because it happened so quick. That can happen - and frequently - in mafia games, but when it happens two days in a row especially, I'm especially suspicious. Then again, we normally see a lot more out of Brat#3, in-character joking around ala what KingPellinore is doing - though I'm not sure if that's because of the "vanilla" nature of the game, or something else (mafia trying to hide, demands of outside life, etc.) So, for now, I'm not voting for her, and I'm watching and waiting.

In my own defense, the best tactic mafia players usually use is to cut their losses and join the bandwagon when it's sure it's going to happen. "I'm not mafia - I voted for that mafia person that one day!" Then again, it's been done so often, I could see a mafia player trying the opposite tactic, so... yeah. I don't blame you guys if you think it's me, especially if Brat#3 turns out to be mafia.

My biggest problem is that I'm having a hard time following the game, as I still don't have the voting script, and have a hard time telling how many people are voting for whom. I COULD add it all up, but I'm just not that motivated yet, especially when I figure others can do it by copying what the script is telling them...
mego said @ 9:56pm GMT on 17th Mar
When I put in my vote, there were still some others left to be made. If they had wanted to change the tide and vote to sacrifice Brat#3, they could have done so. Brat#3 was at that point, the only vote aside from -_- that wouldn't have been a throwaway.

mego said @ 3:14am GMT on 19th Mar
As for my vote for Brat#3 on day 3:

I think whether Brat#3 turns out to be town or mafia, it's going to answer more questions in the long run concerning various peoples behaviors. Some people seem invested in defending Brat, and others are being seen as mobbing her. It is at this point the most sensible vote to make if you want to figure out whats actually going on.
midden said @ 6:13am GMT on 19th Mar
That makes a lot of sense. I wish I had read it before casting my vote this time.
lilmookieesquire said @ 3:27am GMT on 17th Mar
I also think it's sketchy that

Shift ace
biblebelt drunk

Are so eager to vote without really doing any analysis etc. Because it seems to me that we're getting our ass kicked and just randomly selecting lunches without thinking about it is kind of playing into the mafia's hands.

We have 48 hours so I'd like to see if we can flush out some voting patterns or alliances or something before we randomly go after people.

So I'm a little wary about the people who have already voted.
shiftace said @ 6:05am GMT on 17th Mar
I am having a hard time following your logic. Why did you disobey the Volcano gods by voting for an unapproved sacrifice on day one? Why did you Vote to sacrifice conception on day two? Why do my seeming random lunch selections concern you :)
lilmookieesquire said @ 6:12am GMT on 17th Mar
Oh. I figured he was playing on day one. I didn't confirm with the list of people. Conception, I voted for someone not in the lead as a throwaway vote because I didn't have any better ideas.

Mostly, I just want to get people talking and look at some patterns before voting willy nilly.

I think the brat3 thing is odd and I'm trying to sort out why people are both voting for her and defending her. Mostly I just want to try to assert some kind of logic and analysis because, right now, no one else is doing it, and just voting willy nilly is playing into the mob's hands, don't you think? Do you disagree with that logic?
arch2ngel said @ 9:37am GMT on 17th Mar
I'm voting without analyzing, for two reasons: 1) I'm hoping to get lucky. Early mafia kills generally are a matter of luck, as there isn't enough evidence to sort through yet; and 2) because I can't easily view voting patterns. I asked for a link to the voting script on Day One, but no one provided it, so I feel I'm flying blind more than in any other game previously.
lilmookieesquire said @ 12:46pm GMT on 17th Mar [Score:2 Informative]
That's fair. I can see how it would be hard to decipher voting. You can find ver 1.7 of the mafia script here:

And I too feel like I'm flying blind. I suppose my theories might not be that helpful, but at the very least, maybe it will get people talking- and we're going to be in need of that later /methinks.
midden said @ 1:33pm GMT on 18th Mar
I'm traveling and only have my phone for Internet, so no fancy scripts. It's amazing how useful it has been to have so many people's Southpark icons in circulation. It makes it a lot easier to keep mental track of who's who.
shiftace said @ 6:59am GMT on 17th Mar
The worst part about being a vanilla townie is that everyone else looks so volcano gods damned sinister the more I try to thing of their motives for doing the things they do.

As far as Brat#3 goes, she is one of the best players at this game when she tries. I admire her focus and intellect. she has not said much so I don't know what her angle is this game other then to lay low and see what happens.

arch2ngel has linked himself to her in a way that just draws so much attention. I feel that I am missing something. It just seems wrong. If really he will not vote for her because out of game friendship then he is not playing to win and that is bad for what ever team he is on. the only thing that makes any sense to me is that maybe he is a splody and it does not matter to him if she is townie or mob.

My reasons for voting for you right now is not just your voting record, it has more to do with your play style. I know I am biased because i am on your list but it seems more red haring than anything else.

Im falling asleep at the keyboard I hope my ramblings are at least somewhat intelligible. good night.
lilmookieesquire said @ 7:52am GMT on 17th Mar
I think, if I were mafia, at this point, I'd just play the smart game and lay low and vote... as opposed to typing multiple comments and trying to analyze other people's voting/alliances etc. But I can see how you might think it's a red herring of sorts- still, do you have any better ideas?

While I can actually understand voting for arch2ngel based on his brat comment, I'd assume that if arch2ngel is mafia, he wouldn't publically make such an obvious comment announcing that he won't vote for brat. It just seems too obvious.

I'd counter-vote for you, but honestly, while you are on my list of suspicious individuals, aside from voting for me, you don't really strike me as mafia. I'm withholding my vote for now, until I can get a better grip on things.
arch2ngel said @ 9:33am GMT on 17th Mar
In times past, at least, different mafia players were encouraged to play different styles, so as to avoid being so easily caught simply by analyzing play styles - so I'd assume that some of the people doing a lot of talking ARE mafia, but more are probably laying low, as it generally IS the better strategy for mafia...
shiftace said @ 6:59pm GMT on 17th Mar
there are 4 death only 2 oft them that we can be absolutely sure are not random.

Why do you think the mob killed Eggboy and Moriati?

midden said @ 1:29pm GMT on 18th Mar
I voted for moriati at random, really, just based on a semi sinister name. And -_- because he knew too much to be innocent, or so I thought. It would be good if each vote came with reasoning, even if it's a lie.
arch2ngel said @ 12:28pm GMT on 19th Mar
Well, shit. Looks like I'm probably the next sacrifice to the volcano gods. Sorry in advance for making you waste a day on my (innocent, townie) death, but you'll see that tomorrow.
