Piping Brainwaves and Heartbeats into VR : Alan Macy at Woodenfish Shanghai 2017

quote [ Piping body signals into VR and AR opens up a brand new palette of colors we've only barely begun to explore. Sensors can record heart rate variability, brainwaves, and tiny changes in the tension in the facial muscles which will enable immersive experiences to interact with the player on a stunningly deep level. ]

These Embodied Reality videos Crystal Beasley is putting out are freaking fascinating as hell. So esoteric and outside the norm of typical VR discussions you'll find where everyone is just looking for a new FPS to hide inside.

With the right mapping and scaling you could essentially have a giant model of your body you could travel through ala the film Innerspace (1987)

There are so many possibilities! :D

I'm thinking like having a giant VR model of your own body and you can make changes. Like "snip this thing here" and then nano bots eat your brain because no system is perfect.

Also scriptkiddies holding your brain/life hostage for 18 bit-Mars.

Oh we don't even need nanobots to fuck shit up. One of the major goals I've got with my experiments is to be able to use the body as a memory palace in order to manipulate our proprioceptive mapping, our body tracking sense. This has the potential to be useful for treating phantom pain, certain types of cerebral palsy, maybe even muscular dystrophy and paralysis! But...I've been reading 'The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat' lately and it's got all sorts of examples of how broken proprioception can just straight up fuck people up for life. In addition to those couple of video examples I believe I've shared with you previously. :D

So high risk, but fuck if there's not potential for high reward there.

I think the cyberpunk/prosthetic/prank applications of... perceptive pee pee shun...?... will be super neat.

Especially the thing where they tickle your hand, do the same thing visually to a prosthetic hand, then smash the prosthetic hand in front of that person with a hammer and watch the victim lose their shit. (And that's just plain boring mechanical real world pee pee sparkle motion.

Exactly. My favorite part of the rubber hand experiment, besides the experiment, is when people go on social media asking for a rubber hand to use. :D
