Colombia legally recognises union between three men

quote [ Alejandro Rodriguez, Manuel Bermudez and Victor Hugo Prada plan ceremony to celebrate notary signing paperwork

The ceremony, planned for Colombia in the coming months, will celebrate the first legalised union of three men in the country – and possibly the world.

“We want to make what’s intimate, public,” says Prada, at 23 the youngest of the three. “We have no reason to hide it. We are just helping people realise that there are different types of love and different types of family.” ]

Is OK by me. I've always thought polyamory would be too challenging for a long-term relationship, but I don't think it should be illegal.

This will no doubt become an example for the RR to point to, with "why not marry a horse?", etc.

For you, maybe. I take it case by case. I've had one failed, one spectacularly successful.

Relationships and commitment are different to marriage. Marriage is a state thing, concerned with property, taxes and legal issues. The idea that the best person to decide whether or not to terminate life support must also be the person you're fucking is a bit outdated.

Marriage is an easy to understand box in which to put all that legal commitment. Certainly not the only way to go, but people sure seem to resent being denied the option. If you want to stipulate someone else to pull your plug, you'll still need a legal document of some kind.

I think everyone should have the right to have their relationships legally recognised. I'm one hundred percent in favour of full marriage equality. But I do think that marriage as a legal entity needs to be re-assessed. For most people your spouse (or spouses) is the right person, if my husband doesn't know what I want (or hasn't earned the right to do what he wants) then nobody does. But I have at least two close friends who will never marry (by choice) or have romantic relationships and their legal arrangements need to be respected as well.

I hope your friends get it in writing. We just recently found ourselves in the decision-making position for a long-time friend. Having Power of Attorney keeps you from being locked out by hospitals, etc.

Yeah, they've got it all locked down. I'm the guardian of her cat. Her good sister is covering everything else.

Some religious people already practice polyamory.
